No there are not 20 million. That is a single model whose authors admit it is based on a set of assumptions. Other models indicate a far lower but still significant population.

There is no law against illegal aliens working. It is a violation for someone to knowingly hire them but that is not the aliens problem. And they can perfectly well start businesses or run a trade operation without violating any law. In fact almost half work off the books being paid in cash.

Nonsense. The vast majority simply work whether legally or off the books. Any welfare is to US citizen children who have every right to it.

Same old problem. We simply let to many in to do anything about it and we will almost certainly end up legalizing them. There is no other option but the status quo which risks the problem getting worse.

With all that being said do you really think that illegal immigration is a positive for America?

Years ago I lived and worked in a largely Brazilian community and some were illegal. I do give those guys credit though they worked hard but they also worked for less which drove down the wages for Americans and legal immigrants. They didn't have the business overhead that a legitimate tradesman would. The people hiring these guys were rich Democrats and Republicans and they looked the other way concerning the legal status of the workers. They were happy enough to save a few bucks on the job.

The thing was these guys legal or not came to America in their 20's with no plans of staying and putting down roots. They would make as much money as they could and then go home. In the meantime they would shack up 10 to a house and put back very little into the community.

I knew more than one guy that turned out to be illegal that didn't care much for back breaking work and they turned to crime selling drugs and the last I heard of one of them he was serving time in Florida for his part in a human smuggling scheme.

My experience was with say 100 people. The caravan is 7000 strong so what percentage of this number will immerse themselves in our society with the dream of becoming a citizen one day, what percentage will scam the system and take advantage of our generosity and what percentage will become criminals to end up on the welfare called the criminal justice system?

We need a wall to stop the "migrants" .

They can send their kids to free public schools and get medical attention in ERs, but they are not eligible for and do not receive welfare benefits.

"With some exceptions, non-citizens entering the United States after August 22, 1996, the date of enactment of the welfare reform legislation, are not eligible for most welfare benefits, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), SSI, Medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), until they have been in the U.S. for at least five years."

"Not qualified aliens (mostly illegal and temporary immigrants), by contrast, are ineligible for all except emergency benefits, a policy that was largely in place even before the 1996 reforms years."

I don't know why this is so hard to understand.
The parents may not be eligible. But the moment they have a child born on U.S. soil those children are eligible. The money, however, is handled by their "ineligible" parents.

Right. Because they don't want to trade one corrupt 3rd world hell-hole for another one then they lose any claim of being a refugee. (Not to mention that Mexico only offered a very limited number of refugee admissions.)

You must write comedy for a living, eh?

And who says they're trying to cheat? Did your ancestors cheat too, is that how you know this?

There are many safe places in Mexico so stop with the nonsense. I'd like a link proving that Mexico only offered a limited number from this caravan asylum.

Again, with the stupid comparisons to past immigration? How could the early immigrants cheat? There was no welfare system in place back then. Now who's writing comedy?

In that case let's grant asylum to all the Mexicans, right?

FOX and TRUMP completely dropped the "CARAVAN " 30 seconds after the polls closed...

Thus proving the entire thing is a fraud. From start to finish Trump and FOX were lying to put fear in the hearts of fools....

I guess those those young men and women sent to the border, will just have to miss thanksgiving for Trumpy's stunt... seems odd how republicans can justify these things in their heads.... it used to be Rs supported our troops. ....

We don't have a first country agreement with Mexico which would have required refugees to seek asylum in the first safe country they reach. This was supposed to be negotiated with Mexico 6 months ago but my guess is that President foot in mouth killed it.

They sure did drop it, like a hot rock and here's further proof of that.

Quote:
The day after a midterm election in which President Donald Trump played up the Pentagon's mission to provide logistical support along the southern border, the Pentagon said Wednesday it will no longer publicly refer to the mission as Operation Faithful Patriot. Instead, the deployment of active duty troops will be referred to as what it's always been: a border support mission. "We are not calling it Operation Faithful Patriot, we are calling it a border support mission," said Lt. Col. Jamie Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.
