Yawn -- you entertainers make the music, you get paid big sums of money -- YOU DO NOT GET TO CENSOR how your music is used. Don't like it? Tough. Go get a real job.

Oh look! MORE made-up Fake News! from TrumpLandia, where facts are treated as illegal aliens.

That's fine if it's your work. The rest of the country is not bound by what works for you.

Once they buy it they own it and can do what ever they wish with it, as long as it is within the law for it's use.

That is the law, for things anyone creates. Keep it for yourself and have all the control. Sell it and you sell all rights to it, use. Only copying it and redistribution for profit, is unlawful.

Betcha don't know what the real news actually is.

Apparently it depends on the venue as to whether or not he can use the music.

Not true. You can sell the rights to a song and still regulate how it is use. For example, Pharell can sell the rights to "Happy" to Honda while not selling the rights to Jack Daniels. For that matter, if Honda is agreeable, Pharell could dictate they can use the song in ads for the Accord but not in ads for their SUV. Copyright holders have all the power here.

If they play it in all bars every night at closing time you should be paid. It is not uncommon for an artist to earn $500,000 a year just because their song gets played by someone who already owns a single copy of the CD.
Williams could also pull the song from his BMI or ASCAP catalogue or limit the way it should be used.
Its similar to what Monsanto and farmers are in lawsuits over.

HAPPY is a wonderful, positive, upbeat song with a message added in...

Disgraceful for Trump to use it....
he embodies NONE of the positivity.

You've obviously never worked in the music business.

So I’m supposed to feel sorry for rich musicians who can cry every night into a bucket of money?

Maybe they can take their anger out by giving free concerts for Hillary again to see if it actually helps her this time
