In the linked article, there is a tweet with an image of a notice that says it also violates Pharrell's trademark rights under the Lanham Act (last sentence of that notice).

If Trump was not giving credit to the person that made the song and somehow passed it off as his own, I could see the trademark violation claim bearing weight.

Depends on the contract between the venue and the BMI/ASCAP and the event and venue.

The venue may not be able to provide music for political events per contract with the BMI/ASCAP, (since these are notoriously controversial) or the event may have not contracted the venue to provide musical entertainment.

Further the venue may not have BMI/ASCAP rights to broadcast the event, or permit an event to be broadcast that has them providing the music. Mixer is a good example, people have been sent C&D letters for broadcasting game content with game licensed music, because the musical artist did not license the in game music for rebroadcast through Mixer (a game video streaming service).

Obviously IF the venue did not provide music the event would have to license, both for in auditorium AND public broadcast.

Everyone should know this, because everyone has been to a concert, and except where expressly permitted (Like Cake for example) You are prohibited from recording either audio and/Or video.

It’s not a loop hole. It’s cut a dried law. In fact a song writer, and that’s who the law is intended to protect, can’t really get their music played anywhere that matters without it being under some kind of publishing contract. Nobody would touch it because it’s not worth the risk and frankly it’s too easy to find people who are under a license.
IMO it’s why some major bands break up. If the song writer is a band member he keeps getting paid while he’s at home but the other members have to tour to get paid.

People that have made a name for themselves don't want to be associated with Trump in any way. Who can blame them?

How can one blame the Entertainment Director of the venue for using it? It had to be TRUMP!

TDS at its finest.
The buck stops somewhere else, as per usual.

This shows how intolerant the left is. If it were up to them, they probably wouldn't even want their political opponents to listen to their music.

We know for a fact that some don't want Republicans/conservatives in their audiences--and heaven forbid they should purchase their artwork.

This crap by musicians, artists, designers, etc. always comes from the left.

And it says a lot about them.

Yawn -- you entertainers make the music, you get paid big sums of money -- YOU DO NOT GET TO CENSOR how your music is used. Don't like it? Tough. Go get a real job.
They own their music if they own the copyrights. How do you not know that? OMG

And Bakers on the right.

I support artists in their right to restrict the use of their art for purposes they are ethically opposed to.

Why do you cons constantly cry about artists?
