I love my roofing job. I'd be up there on the roof whether I got paid or not. Rain, snow, hurricane, or no pay. I'd be right up there on the roof nailing down those 3 tab roofing shingles.
Amen Brother.
That is roofing, not a critical area in my opinion. Medical, safety, security, are critical areas, which is what I referred to.
But yea, be obtuse.

Yes, the first one will be on the 14th.

Or is it a working on credit thing and it's OK because the government says it is?
They are not obligated to come to work, except if they want to keep their job. They are free to quit at any time. It is not the military.

They are obligated to pay their rent and feed their children, something Trump is making impossible for them at the moment. And I doubt Trump telling landlords to defer rent payments until he decides to let them get paid again--something that by his own words indicate could be months or even years away--is going to have any effect on their bill collectors, do you?
You can't expect people to show up to work if they're not being paid. And no, they shouldn't take the word of anyone they will get backpay.
I agree, if they work, they should be paid. The private sector would never be allowed to do such a thing.
Yes, they will get back pay, it is in statute, they get paid when government is funded again.

Never spoke to any other thing, I was answering the question a poster asked about if they have to show up for work, as in like the military has to.
The original article is not false. It states the same thing that Igbinnie posted. GSA is using funds in a Building Fund to keep the park rangers at work. Granted, the group within the article was looking to see if any special favors were granted to keep it open, hence their FOIA request, but the article was factual about who is running it and which funds are being used to keep them working.
The Corruption never ends with Donnie I really hope the new house nails the corrupt dotard.
He's not just corrupt. He is blatantly corrupt, because the base couldn't care less how corrupt he is, and the GOP moderates are spineless for the time being.
Trump has been getting away with murder.
If Obama had done a quarter of what Trump has done, Gowdy & Co. would have been all over him. That's why the GOP oversight guys have departed.
They knew Trump was corrupt and investigations were coming, and they didn't want to be involved as republicans, because they know the guy is guilty and unethical as hell. It's almost as if they washed their hands of him and threw him to the lions.

Then they will be fired and lose their health insurance and other benefits if they don't show up. This is part of the deal if you perform certain types of work in the government. Don't show up, you will lose your job.

Actually, they do a very similar thing. The reason employers love immigrant labor so is that they can stiff them. I know of many situations where this happened.
It's quite a regular thing to string along such an employee for weeks and then show them the door. What are they going to do about it - go to the national labor board?
But that's probably a subject for another thread....

“The fact that they're in the shadows makes them vulnerable,” said Bill Beardall, executive director of the Equal Justice Center, a nonprofit law firm that represents low-wage workers in Texas.
And he would know: A large portion of the center’s cases involve unpaid and underpaid wages to immigrant workers. "
So, yeah, the private sector loves such a thing....and does it with impunity.
