I'm a liberal and I can't stand the TSA. I hope all of the employees decide to call in and never come back to work. Every time I go through security, I am gracious and cooperative and I get searched from stem to stern anyway. My bags get searched, my checked luggage gets searched, and I get searched. Ted Stevens International in Anchorage, Alaska is especially bad about it. It's ridiculous how invasive our security procedures are.
Personally, I think TSA is a royal PITA, and a waste of time and resources.
I fly around 80,000 miles a year, give or take 10,000 miles. I go through airports and security checks so much, that often times I play with the security by leaving my laptop inside my carry on luggage. Even though this laptop will be blatantly visible on any X-ray vision, half the time they don't even catch it. The other half they do and ask me to remove it.
50% is basically bad enough with something as obvious and visible as a laptop. If you think TSA is buying you any security at the airport, you should think again.
You travel that much and don’t use PreCheck? Where you are supposed to leave the laptop in the bag?
I suppose many of these call ins are doing so because they have children to take care of. Maybe our federal workers have to work without pay, but day care providers don't. What are they supposed to do?

Ditto. Fly in and out of Anchorage and always get searched stem to stern.
Word to the wise, don't carry foot powder in your luggage going through the Anchorage airport. Apparently, this gives false positives for explosives.

I flew from Anchorage to Kodiak on one of those local commuter planes and there was no security check whatsoever in that wing of the airport. It's only for the international and lower 48 flight it seems.
El Al screening involves serious folks with guns who look you in the eye and ask not only if you packed your own bags, but where you packed them. Where have you traveled? Where did you stay? Purpose of your travels? What other Middle Easter countries have you traveled to? Are you carrying a bomb? ...
This was several years ago and as I recall, did not involve taking my shoes off.
I felt safe getting on that plane.
