Venezuela is a failed nation. It's a extreme left nation. But Latin America also have nation's that are far to right and would you like to be a typical citizen in the Dominican Republic ? The Dominican Republic is a conservatives wet dream. No social security, no Medicare, very low taxes, no regulation on business by our standards. FDA, EPA, and other agencies have no real equivelants there. Koch brothers dream. But would you want to live there ?

Why do thousands of immigrants and refugees want to come to America when Venezuela is right in their neck of the woods?
How come North Koreans were trying to sneak into Communist China?
How come migrants are trying to sneak into Socialist France and other European countries.
How come Syrian Refugees are sneaking into Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon.

It has 0 to do with what economic system is in place.
It has every thing to do with the war torn or corrupt country they are leaving and the closest country will do.

The Dominican Republic is a conservative "wet dream?" I disagree.
The Dominican Republic has little economic freedom.
Horrible property rights, horrible business rights, horrible government integrity whose courts and legal system take blatant bribes, etc...and they do have regulations (which are improving), but too often used to get bribes.
The Dominican Republic is ranked 89th in economic freedom.
Venezuela is ranked 179th - only above North Korea.
P.S. The US is ranked 12th. That is why I am not opposed to a national healthcare system. I actually think it could free up some economic freedom for American households and help smaller companies and start ups compete with bigger companies a little better. Do you honestly think that the closest countries for millions of Syrian refugees are Germany, the UK, and France?
Do you honestly think that the closest country for Venezuela refugees is the US?
Why after traveling over a thousand miles and through over a half-dozen countries were so many Syrian refugees stuck in Calais France begging to get into the UK? Better social welfare benefits - the refugees themselves were saying this.
Refugees tend to flock to the best opportunities - freedom, social safety net, stability, etc... You might want to stay close to home if you have little kids or want to move back when the crisis stops...millions go far away from home...to a land of better opportunity.
We are a social Democracy.. So every time somebody Rightwinged talks about Democrats want Socialism, they mean Communism. While is very clear that 95% of the posters on the left who talk about socialism, does not want communism, but a Social Democracy, like the Scandinavian model.
So, when Bernie Sanders and AOC talks about they want to be more Socialist, like Denmark. That means a Social Democracy.. not Communism.
I live in Norway and earn 2x the national average salary as do my wife.. and I pay 36% tax.. Is that much? I think its a bargain for everything we get in return?
