There are no more "blue dog democrats". The Democrat Party is more aligned to Venezuela, than the United States. Your party no longer wants you moderate Dems. Wake up, and smell the patchouli oil.

Your fault is you think Socialism is Marxism or Stalinism or Communism.. and see, by that you already failed.
lol @ the Scandinavian model creating the most wealth for it's people. Where the hell do people come up such things. It's hard to create wealth when you are taxed so high

Why do thousands of immigrants and refugees want to come to America when Venezuela is right in their neck of the woods?
Don't generalize. Either you are making misleading statements, or you don't understand economics.

Most people KNOW that PURE CAPITALISM doesn't work. Look at the 1890's America (not pure, but closer than we have today). We also KNOW that Pure Socialism does't work.

Most of us "lefties" want a mostly capitalistic economy, based on incentives and motivation, but also want some checks and balances. Capitalism works best in most economies, but socialized medicine (for example) has proven to be cheaper AND more effective. And there is still room for a free market running parallel to socialized medicine for anyone who wants to "buy up". The capitalistic influence is why we have unaffordable insulin and epi-pens, and it is why people who live on border towns can get the EXACT SAME medicines by crossing the border and buying in Mexico, for a fraction of the cost.

Capitalism is the best economic system, but it (like any system) has flaws and short-comings. Isn't it better to understand what they are, and try to mitigate them, rather than sticking your head in the sand by making ignorant, sweeping statements about groups of people that you don't (or won't) understand?

Interesting choice of words.

A little sexism in your progressive coffee.

They are fleeing CAPITALISM in their own countries where people often have to scrounge through garbage to find food. Freewheeling unfettered capitalism is a crime against humanity. Do you like your socialistic schools, fire dept., Social Security, Medicare, etc. or would you prefer to live like an animal?

It's hard to walk across the Ocean to Sweden?

I love how disingenuous righties can only call up Venezuela when they need an example of socialism. Frauds.

Oh, let’s go for the Danish model. No state minimum wage, very light regulatory touch on how business conducts itself, the highest rates of death from cancer and their welfare state is unsustainable and a PISA score of just average.

So for business it’s great, but health and education suck.

Poor economic migrants head to where they get jobs or welfare. Venezuela lacks jobs and welfare.

America is a capitalist country.....yes?

Venezuela is a socialist country.... right?

And there are thousands of people walking thousands of miles to get to America instead of Venezuela..... correct?

Are you saying that the Left doesn't demonize capitalism and promote socialism?

Really?
America is a capitalist country? No, America is a Democratic Republic with an economic system based on capitalism leavened with a dash of socialism.

Venezuela is a socialist country? No, Venezuela is a left-wing dictatorship with an economic system resembling communism. Not surprising that people aren't flocking there.

I have not heard many in the US "demonizing" capitalism. There are those who would like to add a dash more socialism to our current mix of capitalism / socialism. The Scandinavian countries that some have held up as models have many socialist elements, like state-run healthcare and free college education, but they also have thriving private sectors.

Socialism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive. Capitalism in the US did not die when Social Security and Medicare were instituted.
