The commonsense way to approach not having health insurance is to simply live in the healthiest and safest manner possible. So that would mean no cigarette smoking and no overeating... just for a start.

For myself, as I get older, I am eating less sugar and salt. I walk more. And when it snows, I am careful about avoiding icy pavement.

I see no reason for "society" to have to pay for taking care of people with an unhealthy lifestyle.

This is a silly half measure in a futile attempt to appeal to progressives while also trying to keep the conservative vote. No to Warren, Harris and all these silly democratic nominees for president. It's medicare for all or bust.

Anything "free" will cost twice as much in the long run.
Any recipient of freebies won't be free, but a dependent, and at risk when the charity ends.
A nation that penalizes its productive people for the benefit of its nonproductive people will utterly collapse.
But that was the plan, all along, wasn't it?

oh please what utter rot.

virtually every nation in the world offers free ed for all.

When free education
for all was first suggested the "conservatives" of the day declared it would be a disaster.

When social security
was brought forward as an idea the republican party claimed it was socialism , communism and would break the US. Now almost everyone understands it is by far the best way to ensure a reasonable quality of life for the lower income in their old age.

The same is true of unemployment benefits, medicare and so on....

It is always conservatives arguing Liberals will bankrupt the world, and in the end time after time it is conservatives who demand their SS is protected, their medicare is protected etc etc...

Honestly what is it with you guys, you are so wrapped up in the idea that some other guy is going to get something for free, that you are willing to deprive your own kids of a secure and happy future.

I'm in favor of free universal childcare, financed by a tax on all families with childcare-aged children.

This is a thread about providing childcare for everyone who needs it.

Note to the extremely dull witted Conservatives who think this will somehow "hurt" the US.

Providing access to childcare, does the samething providing K-12 to all kids did. It makes it affordable for both parents to work. As it stands wages for part time and unskilled /low skilled work are so bad it does not make economic sense for both parents to work full time. Providing free childcare puts more adults in employment while at the same time preparing kids for K-12 and helping them through it.

THis is how you make poverty not as bad, it is how you help those in the trap get out. If the idea is to make our nation more productive, more competitive; this is part of that.

Now if you argument is really about your position relative to theirs, then you won't be happy because will bring some poor folks standard of living closer to yours...

A, you love america and want it to prosper..
B you love yourself and want to keep others down even if it hurts the USA...

which one guys, cause there is virtually no economic argument that stands up to extending our K-12 another year or two.

BTW same is true of medicare for all, it makes massive undeniable sense for industry , as it relieves them of the burden and allows them to compete on a more level field across the globe.... but again is it about YOU or our COUNTRY...

Social security is an insurance paid by employers and employees

No it isnt. Its about free universal childcare (daycare/preschool) to persons/families with incomes of $50K or less.

There are already various programs that provide free or subsidized daycare/preschool for those who financially need help and generous child care tax credits.
