They had an emergency ruling, and the civil law took precedence. The autopsy was conducted.

Judahidm, Islam, Hinduism and some Christian Orthodox religions take a dime view of autopsies.

Civil court trumps religious court, regardless of religion. Having said this, religion and cultural values may carry some weight in some cases in some courts.

What happens in some cases is that the religious courts and the ensuing social/ cultural stigmitation have influence in terms of what is pursued in civil court.

I know they could remove themselves from their community and religion and call it a day in civil court, and I would for sure but people feel tied to their communities. It can get pretty ugly.

This is why these Muslim police forces could if they abused it, cause a lot of misery in their community. The other ones around the world aren't doing that great at staying away from religious morality issues. I guess we'll see. NYC has some little countries within their city for sure. It can be hard for people to escape them alone.
No shortage of movements/ denominations/ branches/ brands within all major religions. Some trend very conservative and rely on social and family coercion to compel compliance.

Some of the ultra orthodox community patrols cross the line into perceived morality issues within orthodox communities. The ultra orthodox represent a small fraction of Jews in the US.

The potential exists for a Muslim community patrol to do likewise.

Effectiveness of community patrols lies with those who choose to live under religious rules.

These volunteer patrols have no civil authority.

With more than 100 spoken languages in NYC, there is no place like it anywhere else.

Another gem quoted out of context of place and time, what preceded and followed these verses. No diff than scriptures.

Sorry, the only language that should be spoken is English. It's okay if your are among your family, but when you are in public, it's RUDE.

It's not inconceivable that these could become such a thing, considering that Sharia patrols have been reported in Austria, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany. Why are people
"idiots" for thinking this could be the same thing we have already seen several times before?
