Trump is an old hand at distraction. The recent firings and threats to close the border are obvious attempts to distract from the Mueller report.

It's not going to work.
In other words, ORANGEMANBAD!

lmao ...one trick ponies, reminds me of kindergarten ....Barr is too smart for these antics, this is a budget meeting, they'll get the redacted report when Barr decides to give it to them, but watching the hysterics and partisan politics will be fun to watch.

Unfortunately it is working evidenced by many of the replies in this thread, & as Mr. Trump's marketing plan dictates.

This is what Mr. Cipolla refers to as 'third law areas':

Quote:
A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.
"When confronted for the first time with the Third Basic Law, rational people instinctively react with feelings of skepticism and incredulity. The fact is that reasonable people have difficulty in conceiving and understanding unreasonable behavior. ..."

"human beings fall into four basic categories: the helpless, the intelligent, the bandit and the stupid."

Bandits are those whose actions yield profits to themselves which are larger than the losses they cause to other people.

These actions generally follow a pattern of rationality. Not smart enough to find a way for both sides to gain a plus, the bandit gains his plus by causing a minus on the other side. His maneuvers may be nasty and ugly, but they are predictable.

Whereas stupid people insist on causing harm and losses to other people without deriving any gain themselves. Sometimes they will take action that not only damages other people but hurt themselves.

Reasonable people find it difficult to understand unreasonable behavior. Which is, of course, the power of stupidity.

The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity

The evidence in Mueller's report will likely make clear what we're dealing with here. Hence the reason for the stalling and tap dancing around.

Authoritarian followers & their antics. Sheeesh.

Quote:
13. Authoritarian Personality

Authoritarianism refers to the advocacy or enforcement of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom, and is commonly associated with a lack of concern for the opinions or needs of others. Authoritarian personality is characterized by belief in total and complete obedience to authority. Those with this personality often display aggression toward outgroup members, submissiveness to authority, resistance to new experiences, and a rigid hierarchical view of society. Authoritarianism is often triggered by fear, making it easy for leaders who exaggerate threat or fear monger to gain their allegiance.

Although authoritarian personality is found among liberals, it is more common among the right-wing around the world. President Trump’s speeches, which are laced with absolutist terms like “losers” and “complete disasters,” are naturally appealing to those with such a personality.

While research showed that Republican voters in the U.S. scored higher than Democrats on measures of authoritarianism before Trump emerged on the political scene, a 2016 Politico survey found that high authoritarians greatly favored then-candidate Trump, which led to a correct prediction that he would win the election, despite the polls saying otherwise.

Projection is all you offer here; on par with leftist ideology. Always painting your opponents with YOUR OWN twisted mindset.

Shove it where the sun don't shine, sister!

Trump's sewer morality and ethics are the new normal. SAD.
This describes Hillary Clinton perfectly!

Yup, & is likely the underlying or root cause of all the 'gnashing of teeth' & resorts to name calling. Rational & reasonable are apparently unacceptable to authoritarian followers, apparently they prefer 'very angry tap dancing' moves.

There seems to be a general belief on the Left that if you throw out enough mean words and cite enough articles that were clearly written by people with a bias in favor of your side, you'll win.

Trump is a pompous ass. That's obvious. Never liked the guy much. That's what he is. Trump says a lot of mean rude words. He's a high stakes bluffer and manipulator because that's what the business world made him. That's his words and his negotiation style.

But authoritarian? That's a very specific accusation with a very specific definition. It means believing in grasping absolute control of every aspect of the social fabric. It means controlling everything. We know what it looks like because we have the USSR and Nazi Germany as examples.

If Trump were actually an authoritarian or a fascist or an aspiring dictator, he would have definitely done some or all of the following:
1. Executed Mueller, Comey, Creepy Porn Lawyer, AOC, Pelosi, Schumer, Hillary and anyone else who has been a significant thorn in his side.
2. Executed and/or disappeared every journalist who has ever said anything bad about him.
3. Abolished Congress or at the very least kill all the Democrats and all the Never Trumper Republicans
4. Change the result of on-the-ground elections to ensure that only those loyal to him win any seats in the Senate or Congress.
5. Killed all members of the Supreme Court, the 9th Circuit Court and any other body that has ever stood in his way.
6. He would replace those justices. If he was even slightly unsure of confirmation, he would declare them confirmed by Presidential (dictatorial) fiat.
7. Protests against Trump's presidency would be crushed by military force and all participants would be put to death.
8. Anyone assaulting a person who is wearing a MAGA hat would get disappeared.
9. The NFL players would stand and sing along with the National Anthem or they'd be arrested.
10. The US Military would be deployed to our southern border fully armed and shooting anyone coming within 100 feet.

In terms of what actually makes you an authoritarian -- actions -- Trump has been pretty pedestrian. Just another US President exerting no more and no less authority than those who came before him.

I can dislike the man without inventing a bunch of made-up fantasies about him. Why is staying grounded in reality so hard for partisan people?
