I would rather have a place in Omaha, Wichita or Tulsa as opposed to homeless in Seattle.

The average worker is going to have far more left over after paying a median rent of $610 in Wichita or $650 in Tulsa as opposed to $1,970 in Seattle even if wages are higher.

The median wage is around 80% higher in Seattle as opposed to Tulsa but the median rent is well over the triple the cost.

Also, much of the extra income would make in Seattle over Tulsa will go to taxes as the federal income tax rate would be 22% and the FICA tax would be 7.65%

Which would mean that the average paycheck is likely 55 to 60% in Seattle and median rents are more than triple.

Many of these ultra-expensive liberal cities are going to be in between a rock and a hard-place when the next recession comes. Ultra-high rents and lots of competition for employment combined with low homeowner rates.

Historically, cities like Omaha and Tulsa tend to be the places to be when there is a recession. Rents are very low by national standards, people are moving to them in droves which means infrastructure is excellent and not stretched and when a new employer comes to the city or expands it's mainly locals applying.

Cities like Seattle, LA and San Francisco homeless crisis will just get worse. They will just continue to ignore the entire situation. Liberals will just keep raising taxes and issuing debt but nothing will get accomplished as there will be no results.

I find the culture of West Coast cities to be insufferably arrogant and pretentious. The tremendously vain and rude culture just doesn't sound appealing.

Median rent for 1 bedroom:

-Seattle: $1,970

-Omaha $820
-Wichita $610
-Tulsa $650

This. Someone on my Nextdoor feed posted the video in the OP with the warning that our area would become like this. I think what people are failing to understand is that the homeless crisis is bad in the entire country but is more visible in cities than it is in the countryside.

The OP may think that places like Seattle are dying whilst the backwater they most likely reside is already dead. But, Seattle is not dying--it is thriving but there are not enough services to help those that cannot compete. Places where the poor could afford to live have disappeared and the result is the madness we see on our streets. This is a result of uncaring capitalism. Some of these people probably need to be taken care of the rest of their days and until those services are created, we will continue to see horrifying scenes like the ones in the video.

Look at the top 10 rental markets in the US. All coastal cities. Not one in the interior. What does that tell us. See Zumper here: https://www.zumper.com/blog/rental-price-data

The top 5 fastest selling real estate markets are in my area of the San Francisco Bay Area. We have a terrible homeless issue too. It's so sad to see the wealth and the poverty living in the same area. The posters on here use this income disparity to bash 'liberals.' Maybe it is true that 'liberals' are to blame b/c they created wealth and jobs. Problem is that this prosperity is not available to all due to education, mental health, substance abuse issues, etc. Instead of tearing each-other down, why don't we come up with solutions. I think maybe more of our wealth should be shared with the middle of the country to help build it up. In turn, the middle of the country can support a better social safety net. One that they will also benefit. For what it is worth...

Much of the "wealth" on the coasts is due to leverage, low interest rates, debt, tremendous amount of venture capital going to in many instances companies that make no profit.

I think this is one of shadier times in the history of the country.

During the next recession I think it will be very, very interesting what happens in these coastal areas.

When the debt bubble bursts, it's going to impact the coasts far more than middle-America

Many of the poorest areas of middle-America have a vast majority of residents who own there homes free and clear and only have to worry about a small property tax bill and electric rates tend to be very low also.

In many of these areas that are temporarily booming economically people a very high percentage of income in mortgage, property tax, electric bills.

I my opinion there is nothing to envy in these rural areas.

Have you gone anywhere else?

I live in a smaller city in the Midwest. My city had a proposal a few years back to put in a casino downtown. Being in a conservative city you know that went over like a lead balloon. Liberal cities let things move in that sound good but won't work in the long run.

We have casinos but on the outskirts of cities, mostly run by Indian tribes, but you can always see a pawn shop not too far away from the place.
