Then the OP shouldn't be complaining in that case. Of course, there are some people who hope Hispanic voter turnout doesn't go higher.

I think about a quote from one particular conservative, Paul Weyrich:

Quote:
"I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of the people. They never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

Indeed

This is the way I see it. If the GOP wants more Black and Hispanic votes, then the GOP is going to have to do more to make the party more minority-friendly. And no, "free stuff" is not the reason alot of Blacks and Hispanics vote for Democrat. That is just gaslighting on the part of some conservatives. The more some conservatives go down that road, the more Blacks and Hispanics are going to vote Democrat. I can see why some conservatives are in fear. Less votes for their party.

As for that meme, I think about this. There is alot of hate and division in America, period. It's been that way from day one.

Of course, fear and hatred have been present from the beginning. And by that, I mean the beginning of humanity, not just America.

What's different now is that a couple of decades back, a nationwide media network of TV and radio outlets began preaching a loud, angry message of division and hatred.

"America sucks and it's all your neighbors' fault!"

And that message is now embraced by one of our two major political parties.

I say that as a former longtime Pub myself.

It was even on TV where the seeds of fear and division have been sown. This stuff goes back hundreds of years. Back during Reconstruction there were political ads being run talking about "if you vote Republican, you vote for the Black man to be lazy, you vote for them to take over". Of course, nowadays it isn't the Democratic Party saying that. It was Reagan and his "welfare queen" comments. Alot more abstract that "if you vote for this party, the Blacks will take over and ruin you".

It happened again with the rise of the 2nd KKK during the 1910s/1920s. And this time it wasn't just Blacks who were considered "the enemy". It was immigrants, Jews, Catholics, trade unions, etc. And then came the 1950s with McCarthyism and later on the John Birch Society, a paleoconservative organization. The John Birch Society was very much against Civil Rights.

Well, this is how I see it. People are going to vote for whomever they want. You cant do anything about it. This "be a conservative or leave" mentality isn't going to stop anyone from voting for their choice. If it bothers you, well, too bad.

I used to be a Republican to. I left as the party lost its mind and drifted to far into extreme right wing territory.

So what... the gop strategy for a decade was to court Hispanics. Even if trump loses it doesn’t mean this segment of the population becomes liberal all of a sudden.

And the democratic party hasn’t drifted to the far left to the point of insanity.

Most dems are now center-right. Sanders is center-left. There are very few mainstream politicians espousing right wing ideas.

My very first election (2004), I voted Republican. It was the last time I voted Republican.
