On Tuesday morning, more than 200 bus departures in Oslo and Akershus were cancelled. In the afternoon, 100 more departures were cancelled.
On Monday, 1,000 bus departures were cancelled, and a complete shutdown was introduced for all buses in the south of Oslo. Now the Labor Party in Oslo is demanding an answer from the Conservative city council about how this can happen.
Transport policy spokesperson in the Oslo Labor Party, Abdullah Alsabeehg, summons transport councilor Marit Vea (V) to the Transport and Environment Committee next week.
According to Ruter, the problem is that most buses in Oslo are electric, and electric buses quickly run out of electricity in the cold. Charging also takes much longer.
But hasn't the Labor Party also contributed greatly to the fact that Oslo has replaced a number of diesel-powered buses with electric buses, which turn out (not surprisingly) to struggle in cold weather?
That's interesting. Honestly, the manufacturers have to come up with a solution to the cold weather issue and the range issue to really get the market penetration they want. I don't like arbitrary deadlines for that reason - the adoption rate of new technology ebbs and flows and making a call like that years out risks outcomes like this.
I'm all for vehicle electrification (so long as corresponding policy encourages additional clean power production to support it), but these governments are so busy falling over themselves to be the first to fully electrify they are sometimes putting the cart before the horse.
Norway is increasingly seen as the envy of the world. It is FIRST place in the world happiness index. It is #5 in median income (U.S. is behind at #8). It has a debt-to-GDP ratio of -90.5 percent. In other words it has a national surplus, not a national debt.
Norway has obviously made a lot of good decisions. Now they are making another good decision by banning the sale of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles by 2025. Not the 2030 plan of Gov. Jay Inslee, which was seen as way too ambitious and radical but 2025.
Can someone please explain to me why we are not following Norway's lead????

As we are seeing now, other cars are NOT working out too well in cold places like Norway.
