This is why as a single-male without children I won't be voting Democratic.
Up to $37,500 just for having a baby? About 3.7 million people have a baby a year, it's gotten to the point where these proposals are just bizzare.
Kamala Harris proposed a new plan of 6 months of paid parental leave for having a baby valued at $37,500 considering there are close to 4 million births a year that is quite a large proposal.
She also proposed $6,000 a year reserved for low and middle-income families for emergencies, additionally for families she wants a refundable tax credit for families paying more than 30% of their income in rent.

I initially read "This is why as a single-male without children I won't be voting Democratic." as "This is why as a single-mother with children I won't be voting Democratic."
I took 6 months of leave upon the birth of my son. It was just about the right length of time. (Actually, 2 weeks was before the birth, and 5.5 months were after the birth.) Part of it was paid, part used vacation time, and part was without pay. But I returned to my job after. Way back then, my husband got about 2 weeks of paternity leave, but that was in the 80s. I'm sure he could have taken more now. Anyone who writes "just for having a baby?" really doesn't understand the physical, emotional, lifestyle, and relationship adjustments that have to be made, and doesn't understand that this is really best for both the parent and the baby. I haven't read her proposal, so I can't really comment on the particulars. But the general idea this kind of leave is not outside the norm for much of the world.
Paid family leave is the standard in most of Europe, it isnt crazy at all.
6 months fully paid (for those earning up to 75k) is very generous by the standards of most large western economies.
How will it be paid for? From the article: "The federal government’s portion would be funded through fines on corporations that fail to narrow their gender-based pay gaps. Harris estimates the fines would total $180 billion in the first decade and diminish over time. It would also be funded through tax increases on large corporations."
Will this nonsense help her in the Primaries? It sure won't in the General.

Pro-family politicians are the worst. Eh?
I'm sure if I read the article you posted I'd get the truth but gotta get ready for work and don't care enough...

That seems to be the more important part of the story. How do they define pay gaps while accounting for experience, job duties, performance, etc?
