The report is more than clear that there was nothing to the claim of impropriety in the investigation and no political motivation in its conduct. End of discussion. Barr, for his part in trying to change the clear conclusions of the report, is a disgrace to his office.

Durham issues statement. Shot across the bow friends.

"Based upon the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the IG, that we do not agree with some of the reports conclusions as to the predication and how the FBI case was opened."

He knows well that the IG does not have access to the same information he does.

Barr & Durham have ALL the power that matters. It's obvious they are going to blow D.C. wide open with these statements.

The right wing is getting back into that alternative facts area now.

No, they simply aren't. That's just spin.

I'm betting no one, not even lower level folks, gets the axe over this. Probably not even an official reprimand.

This was a giant strikeout for Trump and his team and puts the lie to his (and Barr's) claims that the FBI was illegally "spying" on Trump's campaign.

So sorry.

The investigation by US Attorney Durham into these matters is much broader in scope - it covers the intelligence agencies and wherever else they need to go. In contrast, IG Horwitz investigation was limited in scope to a procedural review within the FBI, and to a very limited extent the DOJ.

Also, the Durham investigation has teeth, as to where the Horwitz audit did not. Durham has subpoena power. Horwitz did not. Durham can question present AND past employees. Horwitz was only able to question FBI/DOJ current employees. Durham can question and subpoena anyone else he wants to Horwitz could not subpoena anyone. Durham has the power to indict and prosecute. Horwitz did not.

AG Barr is working closely with US Attorney Durham on this. The Durham investigation is by far the broader and more consequential investigation. That is why anyone with a brain who follows these matters will care what AG Barr thinks. He is the boss of US Attorney John Durham.

Yes, this is devastating to those trying to downplay what the FBI did.
