No, I fully get it. What you don't get is that even though the governor does not have jurisdiction over federal employees, he can still talk to the boss of that federal agency and say hey, bob, we are going to get an influx of people coming through the airport, you may want to look into ramping up your personnel for the next few weeks. Unless you're saying that the federal government does not talk with any governor?
When the administration decided to put in place a travel ban within 48 hours of announcing their plans and put in place 13 Airports for the screenings to take place and to put returning travelers through they should have been prepared for it. This isn't something the Governor in any of the states that have had this occur (Illinois, Texas, etc) have any control over whatsoever. This was rolled out by the Federal Government and is under the Jurisdiction of the Federal Government.
Progressive liberals telling you and me what we must do and they are doing exact opposite. What kind of politician would name a bridge or any public place in their father’s name?
But Germany has nearly twice as much ICU units than Italy per 100000 people.
And Germany took pro active measures prior to the Outbreak much earlier than Italy did.
I haven't yet seen any credible reporting on different strains of the virus.
I’ve seen varying numbers of ICU beds with 100,000 on the high end. Keep in mind that these beds are not empty and some hospitals were already overwhelmed by the flu this year.
I don't know... I feel like people might be scared and not willing to go through a pregnancy in the midst of a pandemic so maybe there will be fewer births? That's just a guess... time will tell!
Last night I told a friend I was impressed at how different corporations are doing their part to slow the spread of the virus. Here in California there's Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, Knotts Berry Farm and others all suspending operations. That's a lot of gate revenue when you add them up. In addition to all the money people spend inside those places.
Also consider almost all the professional sports leagues doing the same, conventions, tournaments, shows etc.
They're taking it seriously, as they should. There will be some lost revenue at hotels and other supporting businesses, but it's temporary in my option. Others may disagree but I believe the country will get a handle on the virus fairly quickly, with vaccines to follow.
It doesn't really take all that much science to appreciate the risk. Humans are surrounded with pathogens and we have known for a while that the leap from animal to human is happening. It is only a matter of time and CV won't be the last one to run amok through humanity. It is a natural consequence of evolution to mutate and find new ecological opportunities (hosts, in this case).
the theoretical mortality rate is pretty much irrelevant when the rate of complications is such that it overwhelms the capacity of hospitals and makes treatment unavailable as we are seeing in Italy.
Why don't people get this? Are Americans that bad with numbers?
