Trump is using these daily covid-19 conferences, not to fight the disease, but as a replacement for his rallies. He is using this airtime to promote himself and his 2020 campaign. That's why it is so important for him that these conferences do well in the ratings.
Trump is taking the virus crisis more seriously now, so doing it for that reason may not backfire on him.
Cutting him some slack would be easy now were it not for the ignored playbook given to his transition team by the former POTUS staff. They had all the experience from their former colleagues, too.
Having been raised by wolves, I plan for worst and hope for the best.
People who have lead sheltered lives cannot imagine that bad things happen.
A local grocery chain in my state has been preparing for an international pandemic since H1B1. Perhaps the government should move pandemic monitoring to the Commerce department.
President Trump's ratings on his handling of the virus have been tied directly to his press conferences, where he is able to speak directly to the American public about what the federal government is doing. If you only listened to the MSM, you'd think most of America was against the president on this. Note, this goes for other things, too.
And the American people have mixed reactions concerning his lead on the virus pandemic:
A Reuters/Ipsos online survey of more than 4,000 Americans found 49% approve of Trump's handling of the COVID-19 crisis, while 44% disapproved.
Those results largely fell along party lines. Republicans approved of the president's response 83%-13%, while Democrats disapproved 71%-24%. Independents were split, 43%-43%.
An Economist/YouGov poll also found that 49% approve of Trump's management of the outbreak with 44% saying they disapprove. And, as with the Reuters poll, the opinions largely fell along party lines.
Eighty-nine percent of registered Republicans said they approved of Trump's response, while only 7% said they disapproved. Among Democrats, 74% said they disapproved, while 21% approved. Independents were divided: 42% approved and 45% disapproved.
IMO, when leading the country through a pandemic, any rating of a Presidernt below 90% should be viewed as dismal. ...the president should also consider it dismal...but of course he won't. He believes he can walk on water or hot coals.
"every time they ask a pointed "GOTCHA" question". he's like a sitting duck, every lie he tells just puts him in a gotcha position...he does it to himself. Who can resist taking a shot at a sitting duck...or in his case sitting clown ?
One way to fix that would be to stop embellishing the facts in an effort to stroke his own ego....easier said than done for a narcissist.
When they say the “Hoax” thing in the beginning, people will stop listening. It automatically makes them wonder what other false claims they are making.
Keep in mind, that snopes is a left leaning website, and even THEY say, “ Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax.”
They do try to muddy the waters, because of their leftist propensity, but they cant bring themselves to out and out lie, like the commercial does.
The problem is that he misused the word “hoax.” The word he was looking for was “tactic,” as in this is the Democrats’ latest gotcha tactic. What does that even mean: This is the democrats’ latest hoax? The problem with being inarticulate is that people misunderstand you. Fault with Trump.
Well stated, but the problem is that the president is not leading the country.
He has stepped aside and if it wasn’t for some of the governors taking the least, the crisis would be worse.
Thank You Governor Cuomo!
Just like the pandemic of 1918, unfortunately it will be our governors who will have to continue to rise above with leadership to save our country...so unfortunate.

But you must admit, if he didn't spew so much inaccurate, deceptive, and blatantly false BS, they wouldn't have any "Gotcha" questions to ask.
If Trump wouldn’t act like a scolded child then they wouldn’t ask him these questions but they do and he goes off the rails like always. Then of course the spoiled man child acts out and he shows his true colors.

I have watched some of the briefings and the reporters are dumb. They ask the same question again and again hoping they can get Trump to say something they can pin on him as false or a lie. Trump made that statement about hopefully opening America by Easter and the media has been holding his optimism against him. Now that there is more evidence in about the consequences of the virus Trump has amended his optimism.
Trump cannot win because the media refuses to give him an inch.
So, we should just put up with Trump's routine of taking multiple guesses on any given issue and patting himself on the back when one of the guesses is correct and berating anyone who dares mention one of his many wrong guesses?
Blind Faith was a pretty good band in its day but a poor way to judge an alleged leader.
You made my morning I can't stop laughing from your words Thanks so much!
It's so easy to picture it as you describe it.
