Have you served or currently serving in the military?

None that I know of, but the time to take action is not after one is in ICU or have died. There has been only one military member that i know of that has died, a NG (I think) died, but that is it that I am aware of.

They are sailors by the way, not soldiers.

50 hospitalized on that ship would be pretty severe. Coughing and fever does render someone incapable of their duties depending on the duties, as does the intense fatigue, nausea, etc, that come with it.

I can tell you have no concept what the military is like nor the jobs they perform.

Going public and not using chain of command in the military is fatal

One of the many Trump blunders that will ripple through our military on every level.

It is absolutely sickening that they did this to a man who served his country and his men so well. Captain Bonespurs is the last person on earth who should have any say in what happens to a dedicated serviceman.

This man was getting no help, was seeing his men becoming increasingly sick, and did what any of us would have done. They need to investigate Trump over this, not the ship's Captain.

Exactly.

It is pretty well established if there is some outbreak of illness on a ship, actions will be taken of some sort, it sure as hell is not continuing its mission. The CO made one, but bad error and broadcasted this not only outside the CoC, but to a public entity. It may have been forgiven or no care given, if it went to some internal, US Navy entity.

I remember way back there was this guy who wanted an xray, a specialist, or something due to his lower back hurting real bad. He could not get the command to let him do it, and they basically dismissed the entire thing. He actually wrote straight to the superior command, where the admiral sits, public affairs office. He got to be seen within the same day, that is how fast it rolled. He jumped CoC probably, but all in all, he still kept everything internal though in his case, nothing classified or anything, just his own personal stuff.

Yeah, the National Guardman who succumbed to coronavirus was a 53 year- old physician assistant captain (0-3) with New Jersey National Guard. He does not represent the normal demographic of sailors on U.S. navy warship

From what I have understood, the reason for going public is because the chain of command failed to respond.

No doubt they were embarrassed by their inaction but this looks even worse.

As I said though, a ship with 5000 people is probably not the best place to experiment with a novel virus outbreak, especially when it is deployed. It is under a routine deployment, not a combat scenario, and there is zero pressing concern to go back to port to address a global issue in which the US has even declared a national emergency over.

It does make people sick though, that is a fact, even in the young and healthy. Being sick is no fun, having a lot of sick people on a ship would really be no fun and would take away from mission readiness.

The CO did everything right except leak the information out. I have no idea why someone with so much experience, in such a position, would do that. I am convinced there is probably a lot behind he scenes that went on for him to put his career like that out there, because he knew, had to know, his career would come to an end doing that.

Trump broke the chain of command not conducting a full hearing to appoint new secretary's in his administration.

I'll take the decisions of a career commander over an Acting Secretary under these circumstances all day long.

Would that be the fleet commander, the task force commander, theatre commander the Chief of Naval Operations?
