Yes but if we can just save one life out of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, it's worth ending the world as we know and creating extreme hardship and even death for the rest of us.
Actually the orange man was sorta right. Not that 3.6% of those tested positive die, that may very well be true. However, one has to understand that 3.6% is the percentage of those that tested positive. What it ISN'T however is the mortality rate for those who have been infected and so any attempt to couch the number as "THE" CV19 mortality rate is misinformed.
The issue isn't the use of a calculator, the issue is knowing when and what to use the calculator on. The 1% chance of dying in general per year includes EVERYBODY who's died in the US including the elderly who die of complications from mother natures #1 killer (and it's been that way forever), time. Simple minded adding and multiplying will simply get you numbers that have no connection to reality (from a life or statistics perspective).
I never buy a story based on results displayed in percentages.
It's impossible to know the real numbers! ~1% have been tested in the U.S. No one knows how many of the untested have Corona?
If you go by the daily count there is about 1 person who has died for every 30 people who are currently positive, This DOESN'T mean that the odds are 3% to die if you're tested positive!
What we do seem to know is that if you're older your odds stink. And if you're NOT Caucasian your odds stink bad. It probably means that if you're older AND non-Caucasian your odds really stink bad.

The words, "from" King Flu and "with" Kung Flu are being conflated and placed into the "scare the hell out of them" box.
Do the math. 7 Billion and 100,000 have died.

Nobody calculates death rate like that, that would be silly.
Why is death/(death + recovered) silly? That's the only measure. Active cases have unknown resolution and are irrelevant until they resolve one way or the other.
The flaw is just in that we have so little data, which is a condemnation of our testing and follow up methods.
Deaths are being marked as COVID-19 even if they were only found positive on one of the notoriously inaccurate tests and the actual cause of death was unrelated to the coronavirus infection.
