you got that right.

americans don't care what the world thinks,

but also,

americans like to let the world know what they think. Americans just can't butt out of other people's business, and like to shame other countries for being un-murican.

You're right. It's not arrogance, but ignorance. Too many Americans haven't a clue about the rest of the world.

Why are using " female " in your critique?

This could only be true if all countries had monarchies in the first place. They did not.

Anyway, the American myth isn't about rejecting monarchy but rejecting taxes without representation. Even that myth has many twists to it.

I say this as someone who likes the US, and has many connections there. I also say this because as much as the myth of America is mostly propaganda, some of it is/was true. There are a lot of things to admire, but then again there is in a lot of countries.

Extreme right wing ideology is destroying the US. The simple fact that a degenerate like Trump can remain in office and has supporters is what the world is shocked at.

A lot here say they don't care what the world thinks, bad move.

Already countries aren't sharing intelligence, and are very aware that the old relationship is no longer valid. You guys, meaning the US government, can no longer be trusted. This trickles down.

The U.S. is certainly being tested with this pandemic. The response to the pandemic hasn't been smooth or well-coordinated at the federal level. Misinformation and infighting caused delays in the first several weeks, along with some denial of the veracity of the virus.

One would expect the U.S. to be among the best prepared, have all the necessary PPE and supplies, have coordinated testing and ability to develop and deploy tests, and be able to quickly distribute resources to states. Afterall, the U.S. is considered the dominant nation to most of the world, filled with some of the smartest most capable professionals.

The disconnect (aka horror) is likely seeing a powerful nation, née the most powerful nation, struggle in ways not anticipated.

5 possibilities jump out at me:

1) to truly appreciate anything in life, (like American exceptionalism) you must have had to fight for it, to have sacrificed for it, to have struggled to attain it.

If it was just there when you were born into it, you might respect what others before you had to do to attain it, but you might not. Its not as personal to you.

Not only did they not fight for it, they might not have even known anyone who fought for it.

2) If an American has never known anything else but Freedom, they might take it for granted. Some people don't know how horrific living under communism is, & cannot internalize it. Some have been conditioned to believe that Communisim as just another way to live a life, without knowing in what ways...precisely.

3) Some people are not self-assured, or strong-minded enough, to stand up for their Country, and to correct propaganda created by our media. They are fine with allowing others (like the media) to define who they are, & the country they live in. In a fight, or flight situation, they'd rather take flight, because they are passive by nature.

4) Some people are extremely naive, gullible, and intellectually lazy. If the media they regularly expose themself to, says the President said "inject bleach into peoples veins", they take that as fact, and won't take much effort to verify it. It's easier to just believe what they hear. Verification takes effort.

5) Political conditioning. If a person is brought up in an environment of Liberalism, many times, they become Liberals (same with Conservitives). Maybe a parent was a Union member, and the other held a gov't job. Maybe the schools they attended skewed left. Their friends & other family members leaned left.

Most times, the lack of patriotism comes from a combination of these things existing over many years of a persons life. If these people could experience communism firsthand, they'd embrace American exceptionalism.

Excellent analysis and very plausible.

She literally laughed herself to tears during our Skype chat. So proud to be an American. NOT!
