What if it did? What if a bunch misfits created an autonomous area in some abandoned industrial park? Other misfits, libertarian hippies and homeless could move there and leave the rest of the city to normal folks. Would that "ruin" your life?
Because we don't let rapes, murders, growing mafia operations, open intravenous drug use, Warlords or other forms of immoral lawlessness exist "autonomously"on American soil.
Any autonomous zone would negatively impact the surrounding non-autonomous zone, unless the autonomous zone would be amenable to strictly controlled borders and controlled international trade. (Good luck with your passport manufacturing and bureaucracy).
But then how will Daddy's lilest revowutionary get his cup 'o mornin' Joe from the local corporate coffee chain posing as his favorite "neighborhood" anarchist hangout?
Our collective goal is not to make abandoned industrial parks worse than they are. The goal is eventual remediation. Not secession to people would would eventually want to start claiming more space and would eventually require SWAT team dispersal in an event that would threaten lives.
Because we already had a War of Secession. If they can't do it, neither can you.

Last, the area controlled in Seattle is the furthest thing from an abandoned industrial park.
Or they could let it be. In Copenhagen, they has such area for decades called Kristiania. It was an autonomous zone, where hippies and other people lived by their own rules and police didn't bother them. They policed themselves, and criminals were turned over to the official police outside the area.

True. They're going to need jails and judges. And a court room. And written Law to guide it all.
They should probably think about formal training for the Police.

Neither did the Copenhagen autonomous zone.
Having said that, the Copenhagen zone was in an abandoned industrial area, and it turns out the Seattle one is in a business district, and that being the case I agree they need to be pushed out.
