Doable but not necessary. We don't typically see large local outbreaks of Influenza anywhere. By next year or so large scale testing will not be necessary for Covid 19. Hopefully.
Maybe there are large outbreaks of the flu and other things, but we don't know because we don't do insane amounts of testing to try to find out.

There is a flu vaccine, each and every year. That prevents the outbreaks. Additionally the flu is much less contagious and the mortality rate is much lower. Lastly, pretty effective antivirals exist.

Where the rubber meets the road, is severe symptoms, hospitalizations and deaths. I can tell you as a recently retired internist, I've never seen it happening in enough local bunches to present anything like the many scenarios we've seen with Covid 19.
Inevitably we're just going to have "walk away" from covid eventually. And those who really believed it hardcore (or at all), will be f'd up their entire life.
Well, well. The game changes again.
The virus is real, obviously. 175,000+ dead. That said:
A LOT of people have contracted Covid and are still alive.
It appears the virus has spread worldwide, (sadly) taken out a lot of people, and is now fizzling out.
And, yet, the hysteria continues.
The hysteria is becoming more shrill by the day, and the people are realizing that this scenario is much more than about flattening the curve.
It's about control.
The people are rebelling, in oh, so many ways.
The realization is coming to light; we're being played.

Case numbers are dropping, and we've most likely seen the worst. Quick and cheap testing is coming out making opening up much easier, and also new treatments making Covid 19 less lethal. Then vaccines. Follow the orthodox medical and try and avoid the political.

Yes, and I totally respect your input and advice.
As I stated, Covid is not a hoax, and, sadly, 175,000+ deaths are evidence of that.
Congratulations on your retirement, Doctor.

Thanks!
Not really what I wanted to do, but I have to take of my wife. Who nearly died of Covid 19 in March.
And that was only number 4 on her list of near lethal medical/surgical issues 1/1/17!

How do we know? You don't get a flu test unless you're symptomatic, and most people don't even go to the doctor so they aren't counted. The problem with corona, is anyone can get a test at any time, and some places require it periodically in order to work. So you're catching a tremendous amount of asymptomatic people in a scale that is utterly unprecedented which is artificially inflating case counts, easily by a magnitude of 10 or more.

We don't really care enough because of the reasons I cited above.
Today with Covid 19 we still care a lot, as we have some time to go with the pandemic. Maybe in a year or so we will not need to care so much.
