"Never pans out"? No, Trump went to the Supreme Court to keep from doing what he promised to do.
And as I pointed out above, Trump was naive when he said he'd release his taxes. He learned later on that the haters would just use his tax returns to mislead people into believing that totally legal tax decisions by Trump's accountants were unlawful. Like they did to Mit Romney when he released his taxes. The press tried to make Romney look like a crook for having money in a foreign bank, and mocked him for putting in a car elevator in his home, etc...

If you read up a little bit. They did. The firm that does his taxes are being investigated for their creative accounting. There are reasons why he has fought to keep his taxes private. All other presidents have releases their records. You cant have a president that has financial problems that may be manipulated by other world leader with money. Now, does Putin come to mind.
Was Trump fined and jailed for tax evasion in 2016? No. Swing and a miss, on your part.

They've had his taxes all along.

Early in my career, I had a boss tell me "never lie about income on your taxes, that is tax evasion. However, deductions are a matter of opinion".

That is really the issue with releasing tax returns. If the IRS is fine with the deductions, then that should be the end of it, but its not.

The media will argue the deductions...which are a "matter of opinion" and the only opinion that counts is that of the IRS.

I did review Bernie Sanders tax returns. Bernie did his taxes without the help of a accountant. The media went easy on Bernie, but he screwed up his taxes sending MORE than his fair share. He just didn't know any better.

Now, I think we should have a tax code that EVEN Bernie Sanders could figure out and pay his FAIR share of taxes.

TWO reasons Trump does not want to release his tax returns.

First, is the deductions as a "matter of opinion". The Federal tax code is a mess and getting worse year by year. A legal deduction suddenly becomes a crime because it looks bad.

Second, the tax code is a mess. That is why in 2012 both Obama and Rommney were in the 12% tax bracket and my 24 year old daughter was in the 25% tax bracket.

So much of a mess, that with real estate investments, people can fairly easily ZERO out their taxes and Trump probably did!!

The problem isn't Trump's taxes, the problem is the US income tax code.

We need a tax code that Bernie Sanders can UNDERSTAND!!!

Trump was naive in 2014, he did not know how bat **** crazy the haters are. He even thought the press and his opponents, who were expressing over the top campaign rhetoric would come together and leave the hateful presidential campaign high jinx behind them, and allow him to govern in 2017, boy was he wrong.
Trump just didn't claim he was going to release his taxes in 2014. He claimed publicly on at least six occasions ranging from Feb 12, 2015 through May 11, 2016 that he would release his taxes at a later date. trump surrogates continued to make this claim well into his administration.

Not once did Trump ever say that he "changed his mind" and that he wouldn't release them.

Actually, it kind of IS our business. When the guy who signs the legislation can literally save himself MILLIONS of dollars or make himself MILLIONS of dollars by passing laws that are useful to him, but harmful to the rest of the country... it would help if we knew exactly what he was doing, tax wise. As President, he had MASSIVE power to sign bills to serve him. The people who voted him in should be able to know about this.

Then don’t elect him to the office.

Well then that also means every member of Congress should be held accountable to the same standards and be required to release their tax returns as well since they pass the legislation laws not the POTUS. Let's see how quickly their tune changes when the microscope of tax audit scrutiny is focused on them.

I’m far more concerned about the taxes of the people who actually write the legislation than I am about the person that signs it. Frankly, I’d support making it a law that any tax and investment records of members of Congress and the Senate become public record. We are currently looking at a $1.9 Trillion stimulus bill that was written by people who have gotten extremely wealthy over their years in Washington. Seems like we should know if any of the pork money is going to companies which are in part owned by the people writing it. Or do you think Nancy Pelosi never took advantage of her position to obtain over $100 million in net worth?
