Probably just because it's somewhere everyone has to go. People still scared of the rona can avoid restaurants and other places but can't really avoid the grocery store unless you use a delivery service.

I think part of it too is that at the beginning the grocery store got a reputation as being a battlefield of sorts- a COVID-infested lions den that you had to get in and out of as quickly as possible. I still see the fear in some people's eyes (over their mask) when you even get remotely close to them in the grocery store. Everywhere else that I've been it's basically back to un-masked normal.

I still have COVID and I had to go get meds - we have a storm coming and closed for holidays etc. at Target this morn. I sanitized my hands and wore my 95 mask to go retrieve them in and out.
You would think some be glad I did that. But if not - come I’ll blow you the kiss if death.

Went to Walmart today and the mask wearing was about 50/50. Interestingly, it was majority Black and Asian people still masked.

It was announced over the PA system that if you are vaccinated you do not have to wear a mask. If you are unvaccinated, we ask that you continue to wear a mask. Right after this announcement, it said that Free COVID vaccinations were available in their Pharmacy. lol

Perhaps they are making a short trip. The mask is a PITA for hearing aid wearers. I just pull my N95 down with sterilized hands. But taking off the glasses to get the mask off, then it sends hearing aides wandering, then there is my buds for Spotify listening. It ain't easy wearing a mask, glasses and hearing aids while listening to Spotify.

Where I mall walk in the summer 95% still wear a mask. All ages, all races.

The places where they don't, Walmart and Home Depot. No surprise there.

Where I am, at least when I am in OKC a larger city than where I live its mostly hispanic people with masks. And some elderly ones. About 10% overall. Even most hispanic people do not wear them but most who do are. Where I live which is 90% white mask wearing is very rare. But it was during most of the last year and a half because it was never enforced.

I think the disinformed, those that don't get alternative news and live in fear are still wearing the masks. They've been conditioned and want to conform. But most have gladly stopped wearing them. And some are still getting the vaccines but not too many are getting bamboozled at this point late in the game.
