Compromising. Choosing between giving up the idea of independence completely or giving the slave states what they wanted to come on board. You'll notice that abolishing slavery wasn't one of the options open to him at the time.
Is it me, or is it weird that the pro-confederates are suddenly going all-out in attacking Washington?
Got it. Washington, with his hundreds of slaves, was "compromising."

Bashing confederates is the "in" thing to do now on the wokester side. You're desperate to keep the conversation there though, even if it makes you a hypocrite, because you're not ready for the backlash that would happen if you went after the Founding Fathers.

Give it time.
The whole thing is going nowhere, of course. It was just a dog whistle for all the Democrat sycophants. It whistles; they become outraged.
It appears that a few black voters may stray off the plantation, and a dog whistle every now and then is needed to scare them back.
Will it work?......... Probably, in a few cases. Most of the newly enraged posters are as predictable as sunrise, though, so it's hard to tell by looking these pages. The blisters they develop by typing "IN ALL CAPS!!" will match the bloodshot eyes they develop by staying awake at night worrying about people who died 5 generations ago. Serves them right, say I.

Your question was about the 3/5ths compromise. Could you at least try to keep up with your own side of the conversation?
If by now you can't fathom why Washington's accomplishments over his lifetime - for all his faults - merits recognition, and why Lee's do not, well - I'm not sure I can make it clearer. Let's just say that one added to the sum total of humanity's freedom, one did everything in his power to subtract from it.
So when Washington presided over the constitutional convention codifying slaves as 3/5ths of a person after the Revolution, what was he doing there?
Just wondering.
You actually could argue that was an upgrade in law for slaves over the status quo. Under the Articles slaves had not been considered as any fraction of a person since no direct taxes had been laid and they were not considered for purposes of apportionment either since the Articles required unanimity among the states and there was nothing analogous to the House.

Actually bashing people who levy war against the USA through armed rebellion has been an in thing since the founding. Washington himself did a lot of that bashing.

Why don't you argue that with BLM then? They mention that quite often as a reason that our country was founded under illegitimate auspices.
You should go back and tell them well, thank George Washington for "upgrading" you to 3/5ths of a person.

Never mind that many of them turned around and took up common cause with the North once again after the war. Never mind the respect that both sides had for one another after it was all over.
Just armchair "CANCEL CULTURE" in 2021 from people who have never fought for anything in their lives.
It is so strange to me to see such fervent defense of these confederate monuments.
Mark Twain observed, "Truth Is Stranger than Fiction, But It Is Because Fiction Is Obliged to Stick to Possibilities; Truth Isn’t."
Demonstrated here, in this thread, & in real life.
