What's happening right now in Florida is really not a good look for their Governor. In the "free state" of Florida they have surpassed the peak case level from January, and it is increasing exponentially. Math vs. DeSantis: who will win?

FLORIDA BREAKS RECORD FOR MOST COVID CASES EVER SINCE THE PANDEMIC.

Ron Desantis is one of the dumbest politicians alive.

Kids don't spread covid like adults and kids certainly don't wear masks properly. the science is both for and against masks, but it's a lot of reading.

Why not require teachers to get the vaccine. Amazingly the teachers Unions demanded they move to the head of the line for the vaccine and it was just reported 40% of teachers/educators (NYC) are not vaccinated. Probably less in Florida since we have more right wing rednecks... right? Care to comment?

What will happen when the surge wanes in Florida and increases up north? like last year? The surge was predicted, certainly not at this level.

Yes more cases, the variant is more contagious, but less virulent.

i think it was an insightful comment.
I do believe the base may be shifting their views.
When you actually know people who are dying and sick it tends to make you reevaluate your currently held opinions.
One can only hope that desantis is smart enough to change course.

There's no denying people don't like when things go in the wrong direction regarding covid. Joe Biden is experiencing similar poll number reductions.
Gov. DeSantis is smart... but he also knows he must do his job and protect the rights of parents to parent. That is leadership at it's best... in the face of growing media outrage, verbal attacks from the left and the president specifically targeting him. You can bet the ranch he will do the right thing based on what his immunology team says.

The issue isn't "are masks banned" as some suggest or believe, but the right of parents to decide what's best for their children. I say require teachers/educators to be vaccinated.

How will the surge be viewed when the delta variant takes hold up north in the fall... as predicted by Dr. Faucci?

The amount or number of cases is alarming and not expected but the surge was. This a repeat of last year with the alpha virus.

Your quote should hang in the governor house... in New York. If you recall Gov. DeSantis defied the CDC and vaccinated the most at risk in Florida and IMMEDIATLY dispatched the vaccine to nursing homes on day one. Florida has achieved 85%+ vaccination rate for the most at risk people.

Does anyone need to be reminded what gov Cuomo did?

No one is denying the data. In fact the surge was predicted by the governors immunologist, just not to this degree, because the algorithms did not see the change in the contagiousness of the variant.

The delta variant is more contagious and less virulent.
He has asked people to get vaccinated but his messaging is rather luke warm with a state with over 22,000 new infections. Other state governors from Alabama and Louisiana in the midst of surge have been much more forceful, he has been rather weak in addressing the surge playing more to his constituents. Sending out fund raising letters in the middle of this surge is absurd.

I would hope that with 22,000 new cases almost entirely unvaccinated the governor would have a stronger message like the Alabama governor instead of fighting school boards, cruise lines and mayors on restrictions. We should at least be able to agree that fighting against additional restrictions in the middle of this surge is stupid.
