What? No. You’re adding tally marks to the unvaccinated wrongly. You have it backward. “It’s a disease of the unvaccinated.” They are making that up and people are too confused to understand that they’re fudging the numbers.

There must be some miscommunication here because you're too smart to be getting this so wrong.

Let's say there are 100 people hospitalized, CDC reports that 95 are unvaccinated and 5 are vaccinated. It's overwhelmingly lopsided and the unvaccinated outnumber the vaccinated by 19x.

But due to inaccurate data reporting - for whatever reason - let's say 10 of those counted as unvaccinated were actually vaccinated. That makes the true number 85 unvaccinated and 15 vaccinated. It's still lopsided but not as much and the unvaccinated now outnumber the vaccinated by less than 6x.

If we expand it further for illustration and say 35 of those counted as unvaccinated were actually vaccinated, that now makes the true number 60 unvaccinated and 40 vaccinated and the unvaccinated now outnumber the vaccinated by just 1.5x.

Clearly, counting vaccinated as unvaccinated overstates the actual number of unvaccinated hospitalized.

I've even through some surgeries, where on discharge, you get an Rx for antibiotics, and I don't fill it or take it, I just allow my body to naturally fight it. People are too reliant on medicines.

If you're talking about me, I said I went on day 3 of throat on fire. You have never had a bad sore throat for more than a day so how do you know what you would do on 3 days? I've never had a sore throat last for more than a day or two either, which is exactly why I went to get tested. Because this was different than previous experiences. I rarely see a doc - probably 5 times in last decade - and I'm known in the family as the hardheaded one that won't see a doctor. Your portrayal of me as one who runs to a doc at the first sniffle is laughably off target.

Way more people have died of Covid on Biden's watch than on Trump's.

I wonder why the media is not all over that and not running the Covid death count across the bottom of the screen anymore.

Sweet Lord let them continue to do nothing in Jesus' name we pray, Amen. (My Pascal's Wager in full effect here.)

Do you want them to do something? Want more fear porn and mandates and airline masking? F no I don't. Omicron classic had an R0 of 7. BA.5 has an R0 of 17. It's contagious as hell. Drop that N95 for just a sec to take a sip at the bar and you've got it. For all that it's virulent it's even less damaging than classic or BA.2. Masking is useless and it's not deadly enough to bother trying. If for whatever reason you can't stand to catch it then stay home. All else is a waste of our time, quality of life and economic health ... such as that may still be.

Ok, fair enough. I was using you as an example but I should have made it more general. I think this urge to see your Doc for every minor illness is part of the problem Americans are facing today with being overmedicated and generally less healthy.

But who am I to judge, everyone does wrong things. And it would be the Doc's fault for prescribing antibiotics for a sore throat. I hope you read that study I posted on how cutting the antibiotic course from 10 days to 5 days produced similar outcomes with far less adverse events. A lot of things Docs do in medicine are wrong, to put it bluntly.

The population is very different when BA.1 came to the scene (let alone BA.5) vs Ancestral Wuhan.

R0 is a theoretical number dependent on the population as a virus needs a host to replicate in. I'd bet if BA.1 came out before the vaccines, we'd not see it more contagious than the Ancestral or Delta. This is my hunch. No proof.

Looking at low-vaxxed countries, their BA.1 or BA.5 waves were similar if not less than their Ancestral Wuhan waves.

Speculative and moot. We live in the population of the now and the R0 is more than 2x the previous variant. That's all that should matter when considering the effectiveness and cost/benefit of mitigations.
