Yes, and the abortion issue is a clear example. In my humble opinion, not enough noise was made by conservative candidates across the board. They should have been spending the necessary money on ads that explained & clarified the SCOTUS decision. Here in blue NYS, we were hammered with ads from Hochul's camp about Zeldin being cruel to women's rights. Not only were Zeldin's ads limited in number & frequency, he waited until mail-in ballots were already coming in to clarify that he would not & could not impact the current NYS laws.
You're right on the abortion issue-we were screwed on that with the SCOTUS decision in an election year. But GOP candidates SHOULD have done a better job of defining the message, making it clear that this was a limit on the power of SCOTUS and a decision for states and perhaps Congress, not SCOTUS. Instead they spent too much time celebrating it for the conservative base, rather than defining the middle. Problem is, primaries go to the "hard core" of either party, who often put off moderate voters in the general.
There are plenty of good GOP candidates out there, but due to suppression, harassment, media bias, and misinformation, many understandably will never run.
Tulsi Gabbard is clearly a Republican but may never run as one.
Any GOP candidate who wins is accused of being a Russian collusion plant.
All true. Our media is far more a threat to our Republic than "Russian bots" will ever be. Romney is now a hero of the left, but look at the lies spun about him in '12.

Which is what brought us Trump in the first place. He does hit back at the lies and manipulations of the media, and does it very well. Too bad he's otherwise such a d*ck as a person. Love his policies for the most part, don't like the man. Sadly that may be the type of person it takes to win these days, given the manipulation of the media. Look at the lies they pulled with the Pelosi attack, turning it into an "October Surprise".
Watching the news this morning I'm struck by the gracious concession speeches of Tim Ryan and Val Demings. Take note, this is how democracy is supposed to work.
Running election deniers especially Trump backed candidates was just plain dumb, adding in Dobbs and it's not surprising that this was a mild win even though we had 8% inflation.

I would argue the same with Democrats.
I do think to the idea that a 'name' can win an election has taken over. Walker thought he was a shoe in because he was a good football player. The RNC and his people ignored he had a history of questionable behavior.
Maybe the GOP will realize that Trump getting indicted and going to jail may not be a bad thing.
