So what? They have a rich friend. Big deal. If I wanted I’m sure I could make the exact same claim for every single Supreme Court Justice and politician in Washington.

My own experience with corporate ethics training for government business makes it clear that even the appearance of receiving inappropriate gifts needs to be strictly avoided. Clearly, the government needs to eat its own dog food. Particularly at the highest levels. I'd be curious about how parents explain this behavior to their kids.

Personal hospitality is inviting someone to dinner and serving the good wine, not a half million dollar holiday for a Supreme Court Justice that includes meetings p with those who have matters before the court.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. I thought Thomas' idea of a good time was parking his RV in a Walmart parking lot as he felt at home with the common people.

At least that's what he said.

You can receive if disclosed. There’s rules and protocols. Can’t tick off some dignitaries that bring you some exquisite sword or whatever when trying to become ally’s.
But this is Corp buying judge stuff. In order to keep all wagging tongues quiet -he would have disclose it all. He’s hiding more than a breakfast in France.

Racist Democrats creating a tempest in a teapot of course.

Could only imagine how they’d circle the wagons if those brilliant minds like Sonia Sotomayor or Kentanji Jackson Brown were being accused of this.

IMO if Thomas doesn't have to report lavish $500K trips by highly highly political friends, then none of them do. And we can just admit that the Supreme Court is a political branch of the government and totally for sale. I'm not angry about it, we should just be honest and say they can all do it and no more pretending. Conversely, no one from the other side gets to complain when some other judges do the same or even more. $500K trips are a pretty high bar.

Thomas didn't volunteer this even now. It was discovered and reported on and now he says he'll start reporting it? Nah. Let all the judges go to the highest bidder and give them each 20+ years of not having to report. Thomas has been so blatant with his actions, his wife's actions, his statements, etc. that the only way is to do the same for the rest of the judges.

The absolute best would be to see someone like SCJ Kagan, Breyer and Sotomayor come out with big signs on their black robes saying "SCJ for Sale, will accept gifts from very dear friends!".

Clarence Thomas has been in the pocket of billionaires for years.

When people complain about the swamp, this is what it looks like.

Thomas deserves special mention for this, but politicians, judges, it does not matter. They are all corrupt, self-dealing sleazes.

No, I don't think so. This is not a teapot. It is far beyond the common level of corruption in DC. This scoundrel accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in what by any other name is bribery. As a SCOTUS justice his decisions can profoundly affect the lives of millions of Americans. We should have at least the illusion of fairness. This level of corruption shatters even that and should not be tolerated by anyone.

Interesting news considering Thomas has always pushed the narrative that he and Ginni are just regular folks who spend their vacations taking trips in their RV and staying in KOA campgrounds and WalMart parking lots.
