The witch hunt continues.

Did they find evidence of this on a laptop?

Justice Thomas and his wife have some pretty slippery ethics.

By the past, you mean prior to Roe v Wade being overturned, right? Do you realize that Justice Thomas was on the Supreme Court during the time frame to which you refer ("the past")? Unless, of course, referring to pre-1991, which I doubt. I've said this repeatedly and I will continue to say it until people on both sides of the political spectrum grasp it: Corruption among powerful people is not unique to a particular party or ideology. As such, perhaps we can make an effort to not immediately blame the offender's corruption on their politics.

So a justice can't go on vacation with a friend?

The fact of the matter is the members of the Supreme Court are pretty much immune from anything due to our expectation that they should be of high moral character. We entrust them to do what is right on their own. Seems there is now a ***** in that armor.

Default Justice Clarence Thomas says trips with billionaire didn’t need to be disclosed at the time

Now, we're getting somewhere; Clarence Thomas finally releases a statement.

Quote:
(CNN)— Justice Clarence Thomas said Friday that he did not disclose luxury travel paid for by a Republican donor because he was advised at the time that he did not have to report it.

In a rare statement sent via the Supreme Court’s public information office, Thomas said that the trips he and his wife, conservative activist Ginni Thomas, took with the donor Harlan Crow and his wife – whom Thomas describes as among his family’s “dearest friends” – were the “sort of personal hospitality from close personal friends” that he was advised did not require disclosure.

They didn't. Gifts of "personal hospitality" did not previously need to be disclosed. When I saw this story break yesterday and heard the details that this has been happening over decades, I knew that the media's efforts to tie a "Republican billionaire" (and not even trying to claim that this man ever had any business before the court that would call into question Thomas' impartiality) was a leftist hit piece and that the two men probably had a close friendship as opposed to some malign lobbying effort. This note just confirms that.

This is a silly thread based on ever sillier leftist media hit piece efforts. Firstly, nothing was "illegal" about the failure to disclose, and judicial ethics rules up until a few weeks ago didn't require gifts of "personal hospitality" to be disclosed. The note on a "Republican billionaire" is also a red herring, especially as no article even tries to suggest that the guy ever had any business before the Court that Thomas heard when he should have recused, etc. This is a nothing burger involving two very close friends and their wives vacationing together

This is exactly it. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd respect the reporting more if it tried to at least pretend that Thomas' friend had business before the court over the last 25 years that he failed to recuse on. But nothing could be further from the truth. This is simply two close friends and their wives vacationing together.
