1AngryTaxpayer -

Your litany of "verboten" places for smokers in California (the "crispy" state) reinforces how marginalized the lives of 20% of the Adult American public have become, since the SHS hysteria began. We are being evicted from parks, beaches, farmers markets (L.A. just passed), the grounds of hospitals, schools and colleges, and our own cars in some places - and they're working on going after apartment dwellers. Moreover WE PAY MORE in Taxes than ANY OTHER GROUP!

We are tired of self righteously smug folks, who don't realize that the NEXT legislative LOBBY (with HUGE BUCKS for spreading propaganda), might come after one of YOUR OWN "politically incorrect" habits next! After all, fast food, sodas and alcohol aren't exactly "healthy" either - and are legal for purchase; but so far, no one is throwing you to the street (in ALL KINDS of weather) to enjoy these largely UNTAXED pleasures! Not even alcohol is taxed at the ridiculous rates they now levy on tobacco! THANKS to class action lawyers, seeking to throw their Business liabilities back onto the backs of smokers; and Carpetbagging Capitalists, who get tax write offs for planting propaganda schills on message boards, like this one, in order to "manage" the public mindset, and promote their bottom lines. (BrianTH, I hope you caught that? How much did the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation sink into YOUR boss' pockets this year?)

Smoking bans ABRIDGE the Rights of Citizens to PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. Period! I am ONE of thousands of smokers who DO NOT go out much anymore, because the government now dictates what I can do, when I seek that "association." Moreover, these ban laws FLY IN THE FACE of Every settled law on our books regarding, SEGREGATION, Private Property Rights, and "Consenting Adults." Get REAL - How many people bring their KIDS into a BAR?

REAL PROGRESS is exemplified by an EXPANSION of Rights - NOT a Revocation of them! If property owners make a decision to allow smoking, you purists can choose to "vote with your dollars" and patronize a place that is smoke free. After all, that's what smokers are doing - although there's really no "choice" now for us, at all! Just watch a NUMBER of your local "mom and pop" hospitality businesses close in the next few months - because they will, one after another - just as they HAVE in Other Ban States! (Denver Alone, for instance, had 60 bars close within 7 months of Colorado's ban!) But the "anti-tobacco" propagandists will Never tell you about that! In fact, they blatently "cook" figures to try to prove otherwise - and present those "cooked books" to town and state officials, in order to get their heinous, UNAMERICAN Prohibitions passed! I saw how they did it to both Massachusetts and New Jersey - with the SAME documents! Many of which, I'm sure, were also used in the Keystone State.

Want proof? Go to the newsletter at http://www.smokersclubinternational.com FORMER and floundering business owners have been weighing in with us there, for several years! And when your unemployment rate goes UP again - don't look to the smokers to fund their relief checks!

Well, you can easily search for my prior posting record on this forum. Suffice it to say that if the anti-smoking conspiracy were setting me up for this moment, it was an incredibly far-sighted (and incredibly inefficient) plan.

What about my right to assemble in a smoke-free environment? Which was being denied to me by smokers?

I have been a smoker off and on for years.
I agree with the smoking bans and wouldn't smoke in my own home. Go outside to smoke.

While I think some people carry the smoking thing way to far...I also like the idea about not smoking in resturants, bars, etc. There are a lot of people with breathing disabilities who tollerate the smoke and wouldn't ever say a word.

I disagree with smoking being a huge cause of cancers, b/c there are way less smokers in the U.S. then ever before. And what I don't like about the smoking laws is, these people are never satisfied. They want more and more...and want to control the way other's live their lives.

It makes me sad what we've come to be today...some people never give up...while others I agree, are not very caring when it comes to the space of others.

Everything goes in cycles, the weather, a city block, etc..and so it will be with smoking to.

I wish these people who lobby against smokers would energize they're time and money on the real causes of cancers.

Accidents from chemical plants...land fills...all the chemicals in the foods and water we injest in our bodies, etc.

I went to a broadway show in NYC. Went out for a smoke...a man walking by on the other side of the street actually covered his mouth. It is amazing the excess that people will go to, out of fear and mis information.

My cousin's daughter worked down in DE for a time, and there were 3 chemical accidents in one year...she moved back home, said the next generation was going to glow....and it will, lots of cancer and other side effects.

But people obsess with smokers instead of fighting the barges that run up and down the east coast out on the horizon in the ocean, dumping all the garbage 7 days a week?????

Anything can be done in excess, and if you want to challenge or fight anyone else's points or belief, there are certainly enough other opinions out there.

Nothing is written in stone, and studies change with trends...

smoking is bad for you...smoking is expensive, but that is that person's business....as long as that person is a smoker aware of the fact that their smoke bothers others...and yes, it does stink...but not enough to cause all this runcus...?

There are so many more important issues going on in this country...real issues...?

I had a school buddy who died at the age of 40, a very close girlfriend who died at the age of 52, know 3 families who lived aside of each other and one from each household died of cancer...my step father died of cancer, so did my grand mother...none of them smoked a day in their lives, neither did they're family members.

If you go into a child's cancer research center, you'd be shocked and amazed at the number of kids there with all kinds of rare diseases and cancers. They never smoked. Cancer is on the rise. And there are less and less smokers every single day.

If a boy can grow breasts from the additives in foods, (chemicals) I mean think about it?

That would be your CHOICE, founded on your fears or preferences - right now, smokers have NONE. This is clearly ILLEGAL under the Constitution.

Wow... This thread is spiraling down the internet message board abyss. It's just amazing to me how irrational the arguments of the smokers can be. Consipiracies? Planting posters on message boards to spread anti-smoking propoganda? Segregation? Smoking bans leading to a communist state where we can't eat fast food, drink soda, or drink alcohol? The only thing missing from this thread is Oliver Stone, Bigfoot, UFOs, and Mulder and Scully.

You got That right!

And: "I wish these people who lobby against smokers would energize they're time and money on the real causes of cancers.

AMEN, Sister! Add to that, ASPARTAME, fluoridated toothpaste, Genetically Modified (GMO) foods (that we are not even ALLOWED to KNOW we are EATING), household chemicals ... the list goes on and on.

So ask yourself this - - why is this ONE issue so Well funded, that you are constantly hearing about it? TV advertising is not cheap! Ya think someone is making some BIG BUCKS off of scaring the general public into believing their friends and co-workers are DANGEROUS to their own health? (Hint: Ever hear of Nicoderm or Nicorette?)

Last I knew, this country was supposed to offer "EQUAL PROTECTION" under the law! Moreover, we are a "Republic" - not a Democracy. Under a "republic" the rights of MINORITY groups are to be just as respected as those of the majority. Anything other than that is "mob-rule" Democracy!

Culling every smoker from every public place - bars and restaurants, streets, parks, beaches is most certainly NOT indicative that our rights to that "equal" protection are being upheld!

This will confuse you. I am part of a spearhead against the alcohol ban that was put into place on our beaches and parks by our City Clowncil. It is going to vote and we want to make sure the continued ban doesn't go into place. It was enacted because of 1 riot that took place in the only spot on the beach that is a problem. The Police could have done their jobs and stopped it in advance by checking for underage or intoxicated people but they did not. The PD wants a blanket ban which is wrong.
Don't punish the whole punish the few.

You see, the differences are someone can drink without spraying someone with it sitting next to them. Smoking is one thing that you share with everyone around you.

And that is wrong.
Punish the few, don't punish the masses. Smokers are not the majority, by a long shot.

Furthermore, I am ok with someone opening a club for smokers. Our Casinos allow smoking and they have many polls that show a lot more people would go if they had a smoke free casino. I don't want them all converted but it would be nice to have 1.
