So you're one of the few gays who is NOT a church basher? Good!
If a lot of gays have soured on religion and the church, I think it's understandable considering what many religions and churches have said about them over the years.

Sure. But that's a knife that cuts both ways.
I've been around some absolute idiots, who "in the name of Christ" want to round up all gays and execute them!!!! And the hatred I've received, simply as a result of saying that their hatred is anti-Christian and wrong, was astounding.
On the other hand, I've been around some gays who were absolutely idiotic in their hatred as well.
Both do a dis-service to "their kind" (and I do NOT mean "their kind" in any derogatory way).

What makes it worse is that the handful of verses used by religious conservatives to condemn "homosexuality" in modern English translations of the Bible may have been mistranslated/misinterpreted.

Just so you know, the ReligiousTolerance website is an extremely liberal site. I'm not saying that to diss it, but I am saying that the "liberal theology" ascribed to by many people is an entirely different animal than more conservative/orthodox/traditional theology.
So liberal theology claims that orthodox theology & interpretation is wrong, while orthodox theology claims that liberal theology & interpretation is wrong.

Same can be said of compulsive gamblers, alcoholics, sex addicts, and other sin-loving folks.
Your ad hominem attacks on others who are different than you are reminds me of a monkey sitting in a tree throwing poo at all the other monkeys--no reason--you just don't like what they're doing so you choose to smack them with poo.
How is that different than attacking gay people simply because you don't agree with their lifestyle?
I'm not attacking anybody, I'm just giving my opinion, chill

So who is right?
The point I was trying to make is that it's open to debate.
Yes I agree with you that site is quite "liberal" overall. However, they attempt to present BOTH liberal and conservative views and their differences.
They also present some of the more controversial verses (eg the role of women, homosexuality) within their historical cultural context and look at the Hebrew and Greek texts, rather than rely on later Latin and then English translations and interpretations.
People can interpret the Bible in ways that reinforce their own pre-conceived views. And the various Biblical translators/interpreters were no different.
Conservative religious people have used the Bible against equality for women and equality for blacks in the past and have been doing the same for homosexuality.
Well, your opinion certainly doesn't come off as merely an opinion, but rather like condemnation.
I think that there are those here who would back me up on this.
I absolutely back you up on this. His comments are usually just one-liners that attack and dismiss the messenger. I don't see much evidence that he's truly thinking about what he says, or that he's taking anyone else's comments into consideration, whether they agree with him or not.
