I do not agree the treatment of teens having sex when there is consent by both parties as well. I have also seen young guys who are labeled as sex offenders for having a relationship with a girl only a few years their minor. The guy was 18 and she was 16. To me they are on an even playing field as far as maturity. In fact, the girl probably still has the advantage. I think that these girls also need to be punished for breaking the law as it stands. If we were to also charge the girls who were involved with statutory rapes with breaking the law as well I would think that these would go down in number quite a bit. Just because someone is a minor does not mean they are incapable of knowingly breaking the law.
But I do support the registry being used for real offenders.
Let me make sure I am undestanding you correcty You are proud of the fact that you have put harmelss people on a sex-offender registry. Is that correct?
If so, you have just removed yourself (and not the offenders) from the "Harmless" category. You are doing a great deal more harm to American society than any sex offender has, because you are gloating about thousands of your victims, whom even you agree are harmless.
Your statement above is correct IF the person is above the legal age of consent in the state (ages vary amongst the states).
But, if a person is below the age of consent, then, even though the sex may have been consenual, it would still be "rape" (statutory rape).
Also, women can be, and have been, charged with rape of a male and female.
One of the more infamous cases is Mary Kay Letourno.
Mary Kay Letourno isn't what the OP is mentioning....she was having sex with a guy who was in her class and aprox. 16 years younger than her....the OP is talking about to teenager one is 18 and the other is 16 or 17....IMO if it isn't rape, than the 18 year old shouldn't be labbeled a sex offender.
I cannot believe some of you on here....you HONESTLY think it's ok to arrest an 18 year old boy or girl just because their significant other is under the age of 18 & had sex???? What the hell is wrong w/you people? How old were you when you lost your virginity? Was it to someone the exact same age as you? Did you not have a boyfriend/girlfriend in high school?? Give me a fricking break! Some of your brains have lost a lightbulb or two. And also, the taking a pee in public, sorry but I've done it & I'm a female & I'm sure there are PLENTY of people on here who have done that a time or two...you think that warrants being put on a sex offender registry? What is w/the pious attitude on this thread??? What is going on w/you people?
Murder is actually fairly uncommon in prisons. OK, so you and I differ about what uncommon means. But seriously, there are a couple million prisoners in the U.S. and only a few score of murders per year.
But anyone who finds such murders as do sometimes occur amusing, is a much sicker excuse for a human being than a typical sex offender.
Why are sexual offenders (those who abused kids) segregated from the general population in prison?
Answer: Because the general population will usually, if they don't kill them, harm them severely.
BTW - where did I say, or imply, that I found such murders "amusing"?

No - I have not been involved in placing "harmless" people on the sex offender roles. Those I assisted in were violent criminals.
And, I have never agreed that sex offenders, any sex offenders, are harmless.
Do you often try to misrepresent what others post?
Two types of defendants / cases I would not take as clients: DUI's and Sex Offender charges.
The regestry could use some tweaking no doubt about it. But the majority have earned their place on the list and deserve the stigma that goes with it.
Pedophiles should be executed for their crimes. period...

Again: If the person is below the legal age of consent, than the law provides that lawful consent cannot be formed.

Hence, STATUTORY Rape
Just as with any other law. Violate it at your own risk. I may not agree with the speed limit but it is the law. If I get caught speeding I own the results.
To be honest I myself don't consider an 18 yrold nailing a 17 yearold rape.
But an 18 year old tagging a 15 year old. No doubt about it.
If you don't want to make the list stick to chasing legal adults. Its not all that difficult to grasp.
