If you had a package that absolutely had to get to it's destination overnight, who would you trust to get it there?
1) Fed Ex
or
2) US Postal Service

I know who I would trust and I know who I wouldn't trust.

Well, I've never dealt much with Fed Ex, but I prefer the USPS over UPS. UPS has all sorts of restrictions that the USPS doesn't have.

Not to mention that this is just an analogy, and you have to be careful with analogies.

Free healthcare? Since when did it become governments responsibility to take care of every single whim and desire of the populace? If you want socialized free health care then move to a country that provides that.

No one in government is talking about free health care. Nor are they talking about nationalizing hospitals, physican practices, drug stores, or anything else. That is a scare tactic. Medicare is universal health care for the elderly and its recipients use privat hospitals, physicans pharmacies, etc.

Personal attacks notwithstanding, what leads you to think that a monopoly like the AMA represents, will be cheaper than a truly free care system?

Here's a simple question that might stir some thoughts:
WHY do you have to buy permission from a licensed physician before you can buy medicine from a licensed pharmacist, if you live in a "free society"?

Isn't that an added expense?

If you are an adult, and can take responsibility for the consequences of your action, why would you condone to be treated as an incompetent? And why would you be discouraged from learning about medical care outside the supervision of the AMA and its "Quack police"?

Likewise, why would a single payer "universal" healthcare system that imposes even more bureaucracy, regulation, and limitation will somehow translate into "more care" for "less cost"?

Just a thought.

Are you serious? Are you an American? I dunno, but here in the USA, we have government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Now, "every single whim and desire" surely doesn't apply to a system that is expected to account for 20% of GDP by mid- next decade? Or do you just ignore elephants in the room?

In reality, the cost for socialized medicine would be far less then the combined amount currently spent on private insurance and government medical investment. Government dollars on medicine alone right now dwarf any other country on the globe, and if you add amounts spent on private insurance, America as a country spends probably 4 times more then any other country per person, on healthcare, and we still have a joke for a system.

Well, this is really hard to explain, but I'll try. I guess the best way to put it is that the situations aren't always exactly the same.

As I wrote before, nobody cares how much things cost in reality. All that matters is how they show up in the books.
