Mr. President, as you speak at Notre Dame today, you will be looking out on a group of young women who are approaching their prime time for child-bearing. Now flash forward 10 years, two of those young women are your girls. Imagine one or both coming to you to say, "you were going to be a grandfather, but I aborted the baby."
In that crowd of young women, some are going to do exactly that to their parents. Just imagine a grandparent's pain....
Lets stop unwanted pregnancies, but not after the fact.
It's a personal decision... even if Obama is against it personally, he can believe that it is a private choice. Anyway, he answered this question, albeit clunkily... he said that he would not want his daughter "punished" with a baby if she made a mistake.
The whole thing is sad, but a responsible, realistic, honest government wont shy away from the fact that they do happen, and will ensure that they stay safe, legal and rare.
If abortion is not the taking of a life, then why do we need to ensure that abortions are "rare" ?

pro choice or pro life, everyone knows that left to develop it will become a life. no one in either camp would or could dismiss a "life" easily. that is why it is everyone's wish there were none or they were rare.

Malia is going to be pretty hot. I was right about Hayden Pannetierre in Remember the Titans, too.
For all of you fighting to have abortion outlawed, remember: If the government can prohibit a woman from having an abortion, it can force a woman to have an abortion. The government should not be a part of personal reproductive decisions.
You know exactly what I mean. Banning abortion would just impact women. These laws impact both.
And you dont have to follow those rules. Smoke some pot or shoot heroin in your house. I know people who do it. Have not got busted to this day.
Don't put on a seatbelt if you dont want too.
Something I thought of that does ONLY impact men using your definition (and, in reality, it affects both just as abortion does) -
I used to be registered with the Selective Service as required by federal law. I could have been sent to prison for not registering. Had there been a draft during those years, I could have been drafted.
Women never have to register and cannot be drafted.
Do you feel women should be allowed to vote on issues that only affect men? (BTW, abortion does not only affect women nor is there any other issue that affects only women or only men; every single issue affects both)
Also, married women have abortions too and abstinence is unrealistic.
In case you recall, we were talking about voting for politicians rather than for voting on issues themsleves so this is moot. We all have the right to vote for any candidate based on their stances on whatever issue(s) we choose. Yes, that includes abortion. And, yes, men have the same right in this case. Get over it or establish your own country where women are in control and men have no rights...you'd love that I'm sure. In this country, both men AND women are valued and equal.
I can't think of any issue that concerns only men. Accessibility to Viagra?
You seem really bent out of shape by my suggestion that anti-abortion men can make a very real contribution to lowering the rate of abortions by simply abstaining from sex unless they're in a relationship for procreative purposes. Why is that so strange?

On that topic, my old health insurance covered viagra 100% but I had to pay $65 a month for generic birth control...how is that right?
I agree with you, though... unfortunately there is still that lovely double standard of 'women should be chaste' and men should 'sow their wild oats'.
