At least the illegal status of prostitution is a deterrant for many women but make it legal, more would enter the profession with society's seal of approval.
You're arguing all the reasons it should be legalized, sent above ground. As for "more would go into it," the vast majority of prostitutes right now are junkies. "the illegal status of prostitution is a deterrant for many women" - lol, someone who wants to become a prostitute but decides not to because it's illegal.

If it were legal, s/he'd have a lot more control over his body than currently.

Such as the liberals advocation for gun control laws and anti-smoking laws? Liberals are just as apt to impose their laws on the freedom of others as you accuse conservatives of.

If it's legal the prostitute is willingly going into a state-regulated market on his or her own or as a subcontractor.
But the prostitute ultimately gives the john the power over her body. That is what victimizes the girls in this profession.

I'm with Chatteress about this. I don't think anything would change except it would be legal.

I'm not against people's right to owning guns. I'm against free trade of guns without regulations. People should be free to buy things, or make personal choices. If prostitution is legalized, licenses be issued to also include things like regular health check ups.

In other words, people should be free, and be held accountable for their actions.

Another good example. If 18 year olds are old enough to die fighting for their country, why can't they legally buy beer? Besides, how many 18-year olds do you know who has not tried alcohol even once?

I'm wondering why the OP makes every thread partisan.
I prefer questions asked honestly.

I totally agree with you. Also, who is going to prevent a john from infecting this kid with all sorts of stuff including HIV? Anyone can lie so are we going to pay for government agencies to test johns before they can use the services of a prostitute? Apparently the porn industry is having it's own battles with HIV infections among their "stars" and cannot be trusted to self-regulate themselves.

Both "liberals" and "conservatives" have to relinquish their delusional belief that they have a right to restrict the freedoms of others because of their personal beliefs. Any activity that is not an initiation of force upon another should be legal. If someone has not forced you to do something, you have absolutely no right to initiate force against them. You are attempting to punish others who have done no wrong, except in your own mind.

I agree .... Seems as if she/he has an agenda and is not honestly seeking true debate.
