But yes, where were these people decrying socialism and lost rights while Bush passed the Patriot Act, ran up the national debt, sent out stimulus checks, added prescription coverage to Medicare, supported No Child Left Behind, and started the national takeover of banks and mortgage lenders?

Some intellectual honesty and political consistency among the populace would be nice for a change.
Right. Because ALLl those people who were against Bush's ursurpation of power were dems, right? And ALL those who supported Bush were repubs, right? Party over policy? Is life really that simple? Bush supporters were not defending him when he was doing stupid. Can't say the same for the Obamanots.

Intellectual honesty and political consistency? Puh leeeze!

"teabagging is a modern sexual term often used in gay circles and in association with the tea party people, was first used in a joking manner on cable news outlets by Anderson Cooper who is gay and would know full well what the term refers to.

It is sick and disgusting that Americans would be subject to such demeaning vugarity simply for standing up for honest government.

solytaire, you're just wise beyond your years, lol. And natalay, I think some must have taken a more perverse angle on things as often happens, sadly.

However, over 50% of us are against it. It makes no difference how we got there, we are there. The number is larger than it has ever been and as more and more people learn what all is in that thing the number will rise, I am very sure.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I mistakenly took the term "teabaggers" more literally, having to do with the Boston Tea Party.

The term Tea Party does refer to the Boston Tea Party.

However some have gone with the derogatory term to delegitimize the effort

I can certainly understand that. most folks likely dont even know.

Those that started using the term Teabaggers certainly did know what they were doing.

and those here who use the term know what it means.

The only way they've been disaffected is that their party lost the election. It's difficult to give a "respectful hearing" to people who are calling you a nazi.
