That did happen. BP's CEO was on Morning Edition this morning. He stated that BP would be paying all legitimate claims against them, and he admitted the $5000 offer was being made early on, but they're no longer making that offer.

BP has accepted the blame.

Although, Halliburton is probably where the blame really belongs.

I'm not a Rush fan, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

The oil spill may not be natural, but oil is. He said it wrong, but he is not too far off. Nature will break the oil down over time.

Oil Spills - body, used, water, Earth, life, plants, chemical, characteristics, gas, animals, carbon, oxygen, substance, waves, surface, Characteristics of petroleum

And man is not the only cause of oil spills. Here's information about a totally natural "oil spill":

Now you're moving the goal posts.

People didn't get checks "because the economy crashed". Some people got checks because as a byproduct of the economy crashing, people lost their jobs.

Fortunately I was not unemployed, so no, I did not get a check.

I suppose Nature will break the oil down over time--but how many decades or centuries? The gulf area has not fully recovered from the devastation of Katrina and damage from several other hurricanes---people need to work and fishing, oil and tourism are major industries.

I occasionally listen to Neal Boortz, the Libertarian complement to conservative radio hosts, he believes the drilling should continue--cites an incident in 1969 as the worst for this area. '40 years'---if you look at it that way I suppose so.

In the back of my mind is a nagging fear--OK--we pull ourselves together and cope with this---BP pays billions, every vendor and subcontractor--anyone involved---pay billions---their insurance companies and the insurance companies companies pay, that is---and the government does what it can---not sure what that is at this point----and then it happens again in a year, 5 years---not so sure the Gulf states can continue to bounce back?
