It was probably a white friend he had who recommended it not thinking about the fact the samoan might not have had the same interest set as most of the people who relocate here is my guess and the samoan thought the people were gonna be just like that one friend he had and when that wasn't the case he got upset although his issues seem to extend beyond the people too.. Portland does have crime and its more prevalent if you get further out. He could have saw that reality to it too. I don't see the whole Dandy Warhols/Decemberists thing out here.. I will admit or in his case maybe Thievery Corporation or something nonwhite incorporated with hipster type stuff.
