Sad news indeed for those among us who are very heat-intolerant. I came here to get away from the heat. I guess I should have done my research, because it's just as hot here as it is anywhere else! I think I'll be moving to Antarctica for the summer! Sheesh!

I just got back from two days in Phoenix and it's already 102º there. Portland has some of the best summers around and if you want to live somewhere where it doesn't get above, say 75, move to Fairbanks, Alaska.

Seriously. I moved here in the beginning of June 1995, and it rained for almost six weeks straight! (mind you, this was the summer before the infamous "Winter of 1996"). Not a great way to start a relationship.

Last year was much warmer, I remember baking in the classrooms at PSU, and so far I've mostly had to keep a sweater handy. I'm okay with that, at least until classes finish!

This is not unusual ... we usually get a warm sunny spell for about a week or two somewhere between late Jan and early March - which gets folks all riled up and looking forward to Spring. And then we get a few nice days here and there which makes everyone think summer is right around the corner. Hahaha. At least we don't get 30 inches of snow in the winter. If the weather were significantly better in terms of sun/heat, there would REALLY be a population problem!

Not the truth, though. Fairbanks frequently gets up into the 80's and 90's--some of the best summers in the state. Ketchikan, Juneau...places in coastal SE Alaska are good places for people who don't want it too warm in the summer (or too cold in the winter).

In the other 17 places I've lived the month of May is warm and sunny. June is always part of Summer. Since I moved here I always have to listen to people tell me that I have to wait until July for summer to be here. Two and a half months isn't enough. I don't care how green it is. I'll take brown and always warm over pretty and green and always gloomy.

It was like 3 PM a few days ago, and my car said 46F in Eugene. Come on!

Speaking of the cool spring this year,
what about the early summer local Oregon Strawberry harvest?
I keep hearing about how juicy and sweet the fresh Oregon strawberries are,
but won't this cool weather delay the harvest?
and maybe not as sweet this year (due to the cool weather) as normal local strawberries harvest?
What about the Farmer's markets?

Phil

I'm an Oregon native and this is rather typical. I can remember many, many July 4ths of my youth spent outside in the rain with a hoodie watching the neighborhood men trying to light wet fireworks. I don't think you can bank on good weather in Oregon until after July 4th. From April to the end of June you may get a few nice days mixed in, but this is rather typical.
