Relative to the Swift-Kelce topic, today's WaPo has a long article on a similar situation 75 years ago that became a 'thing.'

Paywall site, not sure this link will get in past the paywall: https://wapo.st/3Ur8D9P

Excerpt:

Quote:
There were no social media sites to chronicle their every move, no midgame television shots inside packed luxury suites, no cable news shows to chew over the potential political implications of their relationship. But nearly 75 years before the connection between pop music icon Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce became a public obsession, Americans were similarly infatuated with the growing romance of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio.

Monroe, a movie star and international sex symbol, started dating DiMaggio in 1952, just after he retired as one of the most famous baseball players of all time. They would wed two years later in San Francisco. The marriage lasted just nine months, but the two provided something of a prototype for a booming bond between a mega-celebrity and a sports sensation. ... the Monroe-DiMaggio union was dubbed “The Marriage of the Century.”

Does anyone know if Taylor Swift will be able to make the game. This is so important. On the radio the other day apparently, NORAD is going to track her flight to make sure she makes it.

She was already being tracked by some creepy dude who also tracks Elon Musk's plane. She sold that plane recently and kept only her larger plane.

Meanwhile...Taylor Swift's team will be telling the NFL it has to 'pay for the jet coming back from Tokyo', claims Boomer Esiason, if the league wants the singer at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Oh Boomer!

I was really hoping for the Lions and they almost did. Some bad play calls in the second half of the NFC final cost them the game. This is just another Superbowl for the commercials and the Halftime Show with Usher.

That said, a team’s brand value does increase relative to its ability to secure titles, as evidenced by KC in recent years. However, the franchise valuation for the Niners ranks 5th in the NFL whereas the Chiefs are 19th - a difference of about $2B.
IMHO, San Francisco is a bigger market than Kansas City. Hence the difference in franchise valuations.

The Lions would have gotten pounded.

Don't watch the Super Bowl then. End of story.

The NFL and Chiefs are enjoying an estimated $330M increase in brand value due to the Taylor affect.

Yeah, market size and branding contribute to a team’s valuation as well as titles, history and so on.

Point being, the odds are not stacked against the Niners; and, even if they were, it doesn’t have anything to do with KC’s increase in franchise valuation relative to recent titles and brand value.

Team valuation is also heavily about real estate, and the related nuances like debt, obligations to/from the city, etc.

PS, I don't watch commercials really ever, including the Super Bowl. And I care about halftime shows even less. It's the game for me.

Some time back the commercials were fun, not so much anymore. Halftime shows, don't care, it is about the game for me.
