Haven't heard "hubby" and "wifey" outside TV shows. But "kiddo" bothers me because so many teachers use it when referring to the students. It just comes across as condescending and disrespectful of the students. It makes it less about the students learning environment and converts them to just widgets in the education "factory."
I have a thread on "little man" for a baby in another forum and people are freaking out that it's a norm. I think its creepy. As is "princess." English is not my first language and I had not heard little man. I won't use it. Others really are defending it as cute. I think it blurs a boundary between what a child is supposed to be doing...being a child...and pushes the idea that they have to be somehow a masculine adult, almost a contemporary of the parent.
Princess just smacks of entitlement. At least to me.
My aunt took offense to the term "kids" when referring to her children. She said kids are goats. She also called them miracles since the two girls were born after many years of trying.
