Headed out Saturday morning to troll for Grouper. Use some of the tips learned at Franks seminar.

Headed out of Gasparilla Pass...will look for snook on the beaches at stump and then troll in 30. If anyone's out, hail Messing About on ch 16 and then name a channel to talk.
Good day all.

No grouper but the bonito were thick at 30'. Good fun.
The beaches, in 5-6 feet were good for Spanish Mac, Ladyfish and tons of small jacks.
Took the live baits into the mangroves but struck out. Picked up a nice flounder in the ICW. Saw a poor couple completely blow up the sand with their IO when they missed the channel near Lemon Bay inlet. The ran hard aground. Wouldn't be surprised to learn they lost their drives.

Went back out to troll and hit more Bonito. Bottle nose dolphin were channeling their Sea World side. I will post videos the you tube when I get time. Here's a still.

Nice report MA, I wish mine was as interesting. Went on a sunset cruise and brought one rod just to test the waters. Ladyfish are schooled up by the beach complex (probably trout and macks too?), also caught small snook in the nearby channel. I could tell much bigger fish were around but it was slack dead low tide, so we didn't fish much. Saw some finning reds in the shallows but I wasn't chancing that depth with the slack tide.

It is very fishy out there. If you haven't tossed a line off your dock in a while, now is the time.

The blue claws are here too. I put my trap in last week for the first time in a while (snook carcass as bait). Overnight we had a few nice sized crabs...BUT...a couple hours later we found something I didn't want to see in it. A turtle with his head stretched up as far as it would go out the top of the trap. Poor guy drowned.

It was a decent sized turtle, much bigger than I'd ever think would fit in the entrance of the trap. Well, it did. It is a good, legal trap from Fishin Franks. I rarely see turtles here so i was shocked. I pulled the trap out and will do some work to the opening before using again.

I'm no "tree hugger" but I felt pretty bad.....

Isn't that something? I both hunt and fish but yet if I gut hook a fish I don't intend on keeping or accidentally kill some critter (squirrels getting hit by my car come to mind) I get upset.

BTW, I started catching some crabs in the spring and then had something (otters??) raid my traps. I guess I'll try again since you're starting to catch but I think I'll come up with some kind of better latch first.

Video of my dolphin encounter is now posted on my youtube channel. One dolphin is quickly joined by a pod of 3 more.
I'm also editing some actual fishing video to post.
Here is the 2 minute 17 second video:
