And their are rumors Royal Farms may be considering the Triangle region, but I am not sure if they have made it down to Richmond yet, as they are mainly in Northern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. But they have very good fried chicken and would be a nice addition. No plans yet for Wawa.
They appear to be starting down East. My guess is trying to capture vacationers first that know the brand, and getting locals to stop in and turn them into repeat customers.

Cool. What is your source of this information, or type of source of you can’t divulge ?

I review development submittals for driveway permits. I generally can't divulge specifics until they have officially submitted their site plans to local governments for land use permits/zoning approval. (The locals consider all such submittals as public information. The State has exceptions to the sunshine laws for certain business requests, such as new developments, if the developer wants it to remain private until officially submitted for local permits.)
I won't divulge commercial sites such as Buc-ee's, which are new to the state, until it gets publicized in the media. (I knew about the Buc-ee's Orange County site probably six-twelve months before it got into the newspaper.)
Some things will surprise me. Didn't have a clue about Wegman's moving into the area until it hit the N&O.

Yes the referenced media source above seems to indicate that Royal Farms will first appear in NC at the Outer Banks, which will be a natural progression from Virginia Beach. And I believe the Norfolk/Tidewater media market extends into that coastal corner of NC, so that would make logistical sense from a marketing and advertising standpoint. I don't recall if WRAL or Wilmington or Greenville TV stations are still carried on cable there.

There are also plans to build on in Greenville as well.
