Just as the discussion about Stainless becoming common place, every motel we stayed in this summer in CO had granite counters ( Best Westerns) . Will granite become so inexpensive that it will be nothing special?

18 months ago I sold a $115,000 townhome with granite in the kitchen. Big kitchen.
I think run of the mill granite is nothing special already.
Wood paneling used to be very expensive and only the wealthy could afford it and it was in the most expensive houses. Then along comes the invention of wood paneling look plywood wall coverings. affordable to the masses. Kiss wood paneling goodbye. It is now considered to be cheap and trailer class taste, not quality.
Comparing cheap imitation wood panel found in trailers.......
To paneling found in nice homes is not a good comparison.

My wife and I ripped 180 sq foot of run of the mill granite countertops out of our kitchen last year and replaced it with Quartz (Silestone). Granite is great if you don't know anything about food prep or don't care about food contamination, a non porous surface like Quartz is far superior to natural granite which can be found anywhere these days.
Another design element I have seen too much of lately, though I'm not sure I'd call it a 'trend', is wood or bamboo flooring with a lot of high contrast boards scattered throughout. I've seen this a lot on zillow photos lately, and hope folks stop before it is TOO LATE. A bit of contrast due to graining is one thing, but this new 'style' seems to alternate spring and summer wood so that some boards are very brown while others are very light. The combo looks terribly busy and distracting.
oversize brick firplace, think 80's early 90's - be gone.
verticle blinds - already left the building
ceramic tile floors - outta here
carpet, wall paper and tiny second third bedrooms - hit the road jack and don't comeback no more.
I'd like to see the end of the phrase "pop of color".
Oh, I am soooo with you on that one!
I was just visiting a friend who has a vessel sink (aqua color, of course) installed in a granite-top powder-room vanity. First of all, they take up so much space on the countertop. I guess maybe that doesn't matter in a powder-room. However, it was awkward to fit my hands over the sink and under the faucet. The other thing I noticed, and maybe it was installed wrong, was this: As I was sitting, let's just say "next to" the vanity if you get my drift, I was eye-level with the vessel sink. Underneath the sink, you could see about an inch of the drainpipe above the counter. I was staring at it because it looked like it was covered in aluminum foil. Or perhaps it was just gray metal. In any case, it was very visible and I thought the sink bottom should have been flush with the counter. That would really bother me. So all in all, they are kind of useless, I think.

Ewww... I have not seen that, but it sounds awful.
