Sounds like you've done enough already, more than many, you gave it some thought. Nice.

This is the day that I remind myself of how great it is to be single.
I do so hate Valentines day.
I didn't like it when I was married either!
This was the worst of the 'hallmark' holidays.
When I got a mushy card from my s.o, that completely and totally contradicts what he just said to me the day before when he crushed me with his insults and hatefulness.
The only time of the year I might get flowers, and only if followed by an apology for crashing the car while drunk and on muscle relaxers (Please, do NOT ever buy flowers for me again, its starting to give me a hair trigger reaction thinking that something awful has happened again), flowers again when his friend called to say that he thinks I should know something about him...flowers again when he lost his job...AGGGHHH! Flowers!!!
Mushy card that reflect someone elses deepest heartfelt sentiments toward the love of their lives, when you told me two months ago that at the christmas party I didn't go to, you and your woman friend from work might have gotten a little drunk and made photocopies of your butts on the copier, and then played around a little bit because you were drunk...its okay right?
Mushy card that says you love me when you come home from work and complain that the kitchen counters have crumbs on them, that the babies left toys on the floor, that you don't like what I made for your lunch. That I've put on weight, and my hair looks terrible I could at least TRY...and what is this? You spent 10.00 on something without telling me? Oh yes...
Valentines day can go away as far as I'm concerned...blech!

I dated a guy once that was very romantic and while he was always romantic throughout the year he always had something special planned for V day.

Complaining that it's to "commercialized" or whatever is just a cop-out. EVERY holiday is! If you have a problem with V day I hope you don't bother doing anything special for any other special day such as easter/birthdays/christmas etc. or you are a hypocrite IMO. It's not as if you're FORCED to do anything anyway so why the hate? We have holidays for so many other things so why do so many single out this?

I, for one, LOVE getting a hand-made V day card or something
I think this thread was more or less directed at single people. Besides, you really are out of line with telling how other couples should approach V-Day. Couples should do what's best for them. If they don't want to make a big deal about it so be it.

Just s-t-f-u and move on. If you don't like it, stop making a big deal about it.

Excuse me. I don't HAVE a SO. That is a big part of why I hate the holiday. I'm also fiercely against consumerism which V-Day embodies that spirit.

Ideally I'd date a girl who, like me, would be a little bit of a non-conformist. Not because I want to be cheap but she believes strongly in being against consumerism.

I don't see myself having a Valentine this year, but...I don't hate it.

I don't hate Valentine's Day. I've always enjoyed it as it always meant free stuff some I liked chocolates, flowers, jewelry and the rest I could get some amusement from by watching the faces of the guys when I destroy their valentine's gift in front of them ala ripping the card or yanking the head off a teddy.

I think I like Valentine's Day even more now that I'm in my 20s since before the freebies were limited to school and a limited social network now it's work, school, and a wide social network.

I love Valentines Day...sweets for my sweetie. Candy, dinner, flowers maybe some jewelry for her. The kids get candy and cards too and the little one usually brings something home he made at school. It's a great day and a reminder that I have such a wonderful family...I luv em.
