Looks get old. A 10 can age to a 4, a 4 ages to an old 4....we all end up in the same pot. So if looks matter that much to you, you better like the person's charm, wit, and personality, too.

I personally think that no matter what people say, looks do matter. I just think that to some people, they think they don't take into account how a person looks, when they subconsciously are including how someone looks when they meet them

I honestly prefer personality, yes I have to be attracted to them to some degree but it's not that important

I agree as well. Most of my friends thought my ex-fiance was super hot - and one of my friends thought he was ugly. I would never be attracted to the guys that most of my friends have dated/married. And there have been guys that I wasn't attracted to at first but who grew on me once I got to know them. There have also been guys that I found completely unattractive after getting to know them even though I thought they were attractive at first.

Here is an article showing that the readers are talking about a certain celebrity as if he were a piece of man-meat. It's clear that looks indeed are a part of attraction, despite people's preferences for different looks. Here are some interesting user comments:
Nobody says looks don't matter. What people question is the tendency on the part of some people to make looks the only thing that really matters.

That said, you're partly right. People say, "looks are in the eye of the beholder" as if conceptions of beauty are 100% individual. Clearly, that isn't the case. While individual preference vary somewhat, there is a lot of generally agreement about who is or is not beautiful than disagreement.
