Polygamy is a joke! Get serious, OP! You don't really think our culture is moving in this direction, do you? Because of 1 or 2 TV shows? For real?
Calm down, it's not like I backed my car over your mail box then got out and kicked your dog, then drove away with your girlfriend with the intent on making her my fourth wife. I asked a question for sake of discussion. If you think the discussion has no merit, this thread is easy to avoid.
I think the first step with any criminal should be to take his weapon away.
I believe I heard of this happening in some states. It's just 'Chemical castration' though. Real Castration would solve the problem. Amnesty International is against this, as it is inhumane.

ROFL!! Where's the rolling-on-the-floor emoticon when you need it? LOL!

There is no push for legal polygamy, and no pressure for any social change to cause it.
Polyamorous relationships and open relationships on the other hand are becoming more common, and marriage itself is on the decline. People are beginning to realize that when we don't die in our 20s and 30s, we stop being such a lifelong monogamous species. We're more... 'monogamish', to quote Dan Savage.
The media just looks for shock value to boost the number of curious viewers. Polygamous societies are where women have few rights and are bought and sold. It's highly unlikely that women want to be purchased to be added to some man's harem.
Interesting question and not something I would have even considered until last night.
I went to the movies with a couple that are very close friends of ours. Recently, the husband revealed to me that their marriage is over. They are not planning to separate or divorce, unless one of them meets another romantic interest, but he made it clear that the physical part of their relationship is done. They are still very amicable towards each other and act as a married couple in every way, except intimately. I don't know how they ended up there, as I was out of the area and contact for a number of years.
Last night, the wife revealed the same thing to me. She said her husband is being very nice about things and will stay with her as long as she wants, maintaining insurance, going on trips, etc.
She and my wife are very close friends and getting closer. Where my wife tends to be a little more introverted, this other person is incredibly extroverted and I think it is a good thing for both of them.
I have no designs on the other woman, other than to say I love her deeply as a friend and have for years. I feel much the same about the hubby. They are both incredible people. I know my wife feels the same and being around them just feels so natural and relaxed.
So, back to the question. If something happened and the hubby found a new person, I wonder if the question would even come up? If it did, I would have to give it serious thought, but ONLY if my wife brought it to me first.
