I just don't understand why Satan is supposed to be a baddie but the Biblical god all that is good? The deeds attributed to god are highly unpleasant to say the least, and indicate the entity is very deranged. Although poor Satan is always badmouthed, no actual misdeeds have been attributed to him.

Satan is like the monster that a sadistic babysitter tells you will come out of your closet and devour you if you don't go to bed quietly. Children eventually realize that there is no monster in the closet. Satan is the monster that'll get you if you don't believe earnestly enough.
If only more adults had the sense about their belief-boogeyman that children have about their go-to-bed boogeyman.

Ok, but this doesn't actually address what the OP says... at all.
You just say 'well, I believe X' when the OP is clearly talking about Y. He says that of all the misfortune in the Bible, very little of it actually comes back to Satan. Most of the 'Satan is bad' stuff is not actually a direct reaction to something Satan actually did, but someone in the Bible just saying he's bad. Which isn't exactly substantive.
