I'm reading the prices and no wonder people come to New York and freak out when they find what they have to pay for a dump lol

I'm also a pet friendly rental agent and I get calls from all over the country from people who are relocating to New York.....
we are so overpriced. Not only do you get to pay over $2,000 for 2 bedrooms with no washer & Dryer, most places aren't updated and you still have to pay the heat and electric and water and gas!!

Yeh...I thought about going back to NY (lived there 10 years ago) After looking at rental prices..Went through a depression spell for an hour and said forgetaboutit.

;P

Its INSANE what they charge. I could buy two nice houses here for what you pay in rent there. Its not NY...BUT...geesh!

Rent here BTW - Updated studio in a pre-war building - 585$ everything included. Its tiny..But it has a dishwasher, new stove, new fridge, real hardword floors, marble main entry, Heavy doors and hot water that just wont quit.

I do eventually want to get a house BUT I am renting for now in order to expand on what I can afford later by saving for a higher down pmt, paying off debt now and get a better loan deal with a better credit score and dropped negative accts within the next 5 years.

The houses I am wanting at would have about a 600-700$/mo morg + ultil/txs/insur

My rent is $700/month for a ~900 sq ft 1/1, including water and trash/recycling. The building is a 100+ year old renovated quad (all four apartments are 1br) with hardwood floors, lots of closets, dishwasher, W/D hookups, central A/C, awesome front porch and a shared basement. It is on a sidestreet of a strip considered to be an "entertainment district" here, where lots of people come for restaurants, bars and art galleries. There are a lot of things within walking distance. The location is awesome. I consider it a deal! You won't find many in this area that are as nice for such a low rent.

i pay $1700 mo. for a 4bd. 3 ba. 2400 sq. ft brand new home on a golf course with a dirt patch for a backyard. we're in reno, nevada currently. it's a very nice home but we are downsizing when we move and are hoping to pay less than $1000mo. sigh... i want to live below my means.

OK -- late to the party, but ...

I pay $1,100 (+ ~$120 for utilities) for a 600SF, unrenovated apartment on the fringes of "da hood" in New York City. And, considering NY prices, it's a pretty good deal .....

$650 for a 1 bedroom 1 bath VERY small apartment in Maine. The price includes heat and parking for one vehicle. The other vehicle has to be parked up the street in a public parking lot. We pay about $120 a month for electricity.
